would you make this trade?

ok, I got an offer yesterday that I am seriously entertaining, and perhaps I shouldn't be. I'm looking for input, not a heckling!

I was offered 7K, AND a 1g eagle talon TSI with 200K miles on it. I know, the mileage is outrageous but the whole thing was rebuilt @170K. It has some crower cams and a 16G turbo on it. The car is *very clean*. No scratches, dents, dings, rust, and the interior looks as good as mine. There are no cosmetic blemishes that I could find. He's looking to get rid of it because he's looking for a four door for his family.

My R/A is a 2004, has 26K miles on it, and although has not been garaged it is still well cared for. The R/A is nearly stock - underhood shifter bushings, short throw shifter, injen CAI. I would be throwing in an extra 4g69 cylinder head, intake manifold, and RRM dp.

I am thinking about it because I have been considering trading in the RA for a while now. I like the RA but I am just looking for something faster and tuner friendly. Honestly with the 1g dsm as an aging platform, I still think there are far more available mods for it than the RA. I am also trying to save up money to get married this november, and every little bit helps.

My plan would be to to take 1K and put it towards the wedding fund, and take the remaining 6K and dump it back into the car, in an as yet to be determined upgrade path. Would you do this? Why or why not? Thanks for the input guys.

If you do it, it'd be a wise idea to invest in a "just in case" beater.

Personally, no, but my priorities are different. In your situation, though, it sounds like a good way to get away from the overpriced Ralliart and into something more fun and economical to mod.

Well do you want a project race car or a daily driver. Just b/c the motor was rebuilt ( a very loose term ) the car still has 200k miles on it, suspension, interior, body. I'd guess value of 1g in tip top shape at 2 or 3k at the max plus the 7k, So ask yourself if the low mile, well maintained RA is worth 8 to 10k. I'd pass. If you want a project car I'd just look for a 1g or 2g DSM and rebuild everything yourself and keep the reliable RA.

Is the Ra paid off or would you have to use some of the 7k to pay off?

The RA is completely paid for. My bad, I should have mentioned that up front as well. I should also seek clarification on the rebuilt engine, and find out EXACTLY what was done. It's worth mentioning this guy is a mitsu mechanic, and he's been working on my RA since I bought it. He is kind of a friend of mine and he's personally warrantied any and all of the work he's done thus far for me. He did my alignment on the RA for $30.00. I believe him to be a pretty honest and reasonable person and he's assured me he would give me any work needed on the talon if and when it arises at the same reasonable costs he's been doing work on the RA for. I would be doing a lot of the mods/upgrades myself, or at least try but it's nice to have someone like that in your corner.

In that case I would see what you could get selling it. Carmax is a good place to do that. Then see what you could buy with that money and compare to this deal.

If you got your heart set on it, you will do it no matter what. It's up to you & it look like you already made up your mind.

So go for it.
