Rust on the paint of my RA2006

Hey guys,

I've taken back a rental of a RA2006 recently (2 months ago). The car is nearly 2 years old and I noticed some small points of rust on the paint. My RA is white so a rusty orange brings up easily. Anyway, my point is, is that cover by the warranty ? This is my first car and I don't really know how to deal with that kind of thing. There is not a lot of rust, but I'd like to get rid of it right now, especially if there is a problem with the paint.

Do I have to call the dealer for that ? Anyone had issue like this with their Ralliart / Lancer ?

Thanks,

Neo

p.s. In case that the warranty differs from country, I'm from Canada.

Surface rust isn't covered, only penetrating rust. Run a clay bar over the car then detail it, that'll get rid of the rust spots.

Is this a known issue of Mitshubishi paint or the last owner was just bad ?

It's not the paint. It's usually rail dust and road debris embedded in the paint. Regular detailing, including clay bar treatment, will prevent this.

Any white car will show this. Check any white car next time your in a parking lot. Gwt up close and look. You have to clay bar it, and keep up on the clay bar and waxing in order to not have it show.

It's actually metal partials picked up while driving, from your brakes, other brakes, and etc. Then it gets wet, sticks, and rusts.

I spot clay bar / wax mine once a week with every wash to keep on top of this issue. That and I don't drive it in the winter.

See below. I clay bared the front fender but not the door. It takes an *** metric ton of time to do it the first time, thats why I stay on top of it now.

Wow thank you guys for the explanations, this is very much appreciated.

I can tell you this right away, I don't have time to clean that up every week...are there any kind of protector of some kind (wax ?) to prevent this ? How bad could it be if I let it go ? I mean, this is still rust from what I understand and rust = no good.

Just clay bar it once, put a nice reliable wax on it, a pretty good coat and just spray it down every once in a while. I wash my car once a month, takes a long process but i claybar, wax, and then do a quick polish on the car. Takes about 3 hours but its worth it. If i do the interior its even longer.
