manual to automatic

i have 04 ralliart manual
ok heres the thing sister is taking car and refuses to learn manual...i know very little about cars and i know your prolly all gonna say just sell the car and buy an automatic well thats not a option right now...so basically what im asking is what do i need to convert it to a automatic. i know a automatic transmission...my question is does it have to be a ralliart transmission or can it be another one? and what other parts will i need? and possibly if anybody can tell me estimated price for all the parts. thnx sorry if this was already asked.

We are so spoiled in this country... In other countries there is no such thing as an automatic.

I bet that'll be a nice long fun conversion though.

it is going to be extremely costly to convert it to manual... shoot might as well buy a used car for the money you'd be spending on a conversion...

too bad you're not in chicago or else i'd just trade parts with you cause i want to convert to manual from automatic

if buying a car is out of the question... force her to learn manual or else she doesnt drive thats what i'd do to my sister =P

Yeah, I agree, conversion would not be cost effective. you will lose less money if you sell it and buy an auto. or you could buy your sister a bicycle

how is none of this info helpful? Basically, you're waiting for someone to tell you that it's cost effective and no problem, which it isn't.

+1. If u really need help go to the dealership and ask for a quote on an auto tranny for the Lancer for that year (it should be the same as the rest of the auto lancers). Like others have said, u are better off selling urs and buyin an automatic or trading with someone else. Automatic is not cheap hence why it cost more to buy one than a manual.

you should trade cars with camillejorge8, he just posted a tread on 4/17/09

"tranny change from automatic to manual" It will be cheaper for the both of you.

It's not like you can just swap transmissions like batteries to a gameboy...

I want a manual tranny for my wagon. if you know of someone that can do a swap, I would take the drive out there to get it done!

MMM, US sportback with 5spd would be great!

it would definitely not be worth the cost... if you put in the price of a transmission.. say $4000, and another $1000 for labour, another $1000 for other small parts you need, and $1500 for the ecu and things like that.. you are looking at $7500 which is basically what your car is worth if you sell it right now... so if you take that amount, and add it to the car value, then you have about $14000, which you can buy a brand new car for that price.
