Would that cause the A/C to run for several minutes then stop, turn back on in about 1 minute run for maybe 5, shutoff may or may not come back on. If I turn off the fan completely and let it sit for say 10 minutes and turn it back on the A/C will kick back on. It seems to have more issue when the temperature outside is pretty hot, also when I have the defrost on it kicks the A/C on with no problem. I know if you have a low levels it can kick on, off, on, off but this isn't the same. It will run 1 minute to several minutes no real pattern. Seems to me like its a sensor that is getting a bad reading somewhere.

Well I spent $12 to purchase a pressure gauge tester for the A/C and it comes back with perfect levels so being low R134A levels isn't the problem. Something else has to be causing this issue. Any help or ideas would be great, I don't want to spend a fortune to fix the A/C.

Wrong section, and anyways, your car is under warranty, let Mitsu figure it out.

Since someone already dug this thread up from the graveyard I don't feel so bad adding to it now. For a while (past year) my AC has been slowly leaking R134a. Last summer my buddy who works on HVAC for a living and I pumped the system dry and refilled it several times, replaced the low and high pressure valves and checked for leaks with the UV whatchamacallit, but it still leaks. On a full charge I can go about 2 months with the AC on just about every day, but it seems if I let the car sit for a day or two then the next time I try to kick on the AC it just blows warm air. The compressor kicks on during this time, I just try not to run it when it's low.

Lately though when the compressor clicks on I'll hear the belt start to squeak at idle speeds and if I give it a little gas it goes away or sometimes when I have my wheels turned to the extreme right the belt will squeak a little as well. I can turn the compressor off and not hear the belt at all.

One person I know told me I needed to replace the compressor, but mitusparts.net has one for over $600 and even Auto Zone is over $300. I don't mind having to pay to fix the AC, I just want some guidance as to whether or not that would fix my issue.

Thanks in advance guys! (Otter) :-)

Yeah, replace the belt and get rid of the squealing, first.

I replaced the belt just a few months ago, which is why I was hesitant to think that's what it was. It sounds like it's the compressor making the noise, not the belt.

This is the classic symptom of a loose belt. The AC compressor puts enough of a load on it to slip. The power steering pump does the same when you turn the wheel to full lock in either direction.

Even though you just changed it recently, I'd try a new belt before dropping $600 on a new compressor.

Make sure your belt tensioner is working properly. Mine was frozen in place when I changed my belt a couple years ago. I had to hammer it apart, clean it, grease it, and hope for the best until I finally replaced the tensioner when that belt was due for replacement. The square hole on it that you put the 1/2" extension in busted off on it, I had to use a chain wrench to move it. Gotta love road salt.

Lightbulb 04 ralliart a/c problems

okay, so i bought my car 2/09. amazing immaculate condition. completely loved it!!!
only thing, it was kind of hard to change a/c from hot to cold and the hvac lights didn't work... well not long after, the a/c quit blowing cold air, and the temp nob wouldn't turn unless i did it for under the dash.

so.... 9/10 my bf said okay its enough time to bring it to the dealer ship...
they charged 50$ and told us it was the hvac control unit(heater control unit, a/c ecu)... the white box where all the buttons and stuff was... so i went to the junkyard and pulled it out an 02 lancer for 17$ vs 250 online and even more from the dealership. i would have put it in, but i had to go to class, and my bf is way too impatient so he got charged another 50$ to put it in... great the lights work and everything... the only thing now it that i need to change the heater blend door(75$ online, or lots of time in the junkyard) which will be a very big project since i have to take apart the white air mix box, and install a new one... doesn't seem that hard, but it will take some time...

here is where i got my instructions

thanks

Bringing this one back from the grave hahaha mine does the same thing "cycling" on and off which some say is normal but the fact that it does not blow cold air means its not normal.. Mine on the other hand is hot air at idle and cool at freeway speeds... I also noticed that my ac fan was not spinning I'm pretty sure thats the problem since the r134 can't get cooled I'm guessing it causes high pressure which makes the compressor turn on and off rapidly.. I don't have money to replace the fan yet maybe when it starts getting 80s here I'll dip Into my savings.. I did notice a leak at the bottom compressor hose which started hissing only when the engine was angled downward to put the trans back in (thanks crans made it so much easier than the first time).. Maybe all manual trans have a similar leak from having to put a clutch in
