Idling high after extended highway run

Hi gang,

So over the past year my '06 Ralliart has begun to idle high when I get stuck in stop and go traffic after been driving on highway for an hour or two. It will start at 1500 and steadily start idling higher and higher, getting as high as 3000 rpm. I'm thinking might be heat related, as when it has happened was in the mid-high 20s C (75-80 F). Of note, the only change I've done to my car is I added a K&N Filter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Al.

This same thing happens to me every once and a while. I have always wondered what causes it. I always put my foot behind the accelerator and pull it back towards me and that usually solves the issue. I think it has somethin to do with the accelerator's spring not pushing back far enough.

Also maybe a possible accelerator pedal sensor failure? That is what happened to me except it wouldn't rev at all.. idk if the pedal sensor works both ways. Just a guess.

First thing I would check is the cable going to the accelerator position sensor. Make sure it has a little slack in it.

Of course, if it were me I'd also be hooking up my laptop and datalogging it when the issue arose next time. I'd want to see if it showed the throttle at 0% or not, and would also check the reading for target idle.

Did you ever get this fixed. This definitely mechanical, as when you put your foot behind the gas pedal and flip it up the idle drops back to normal.

Oil sensor is dirt cheap, under 10 bux. Installing it is no fun though.
