Need a little help :)

Just got my 05 Ralliart on the road a few weeks ago, it was a little worse for wear when I bought her. I really like the car, Mitsu in general. Have 3 Talons and an 09 Lancer GTS for the wife. But I can't believe the poor gas mileage this one gets (way worse than the 09) I have full synthetic in the motor and tranny (Lucas) O2 was changed approx 10,000 kms ago and I just redid the exhaust as it was toast when I bought it. The filter was just cleaned and oiled (Injen cold air) and there is zero gas leaks. I have tried a few different ways to drive it but always within 10km's to the tank. I get from full until the light comes on 335-345 KM's, that's driving at 110-115KM/Hr and always below 3500 rpm to keep it out of mivec.

The only thing I can think is valve adjustment but they are quite, more so then the 09. But I'd like to check them anyway to be sure, would anyone be able to help me find the specs and or a "how to"? I've done lots of valve adjustments just never on a Mivec, not sure if it's different at all? Or if anyone has any other suggestions on what might be the cause? If I can't figure this out I'll have t o sell it and drive the 98 Talon again as it gets way better mileage.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
Oh and few pics to show her off since it's just been redone.

correct me if i'm wrong, but 335km is around 210 miles right?

that sounds pretty low, is the majority of your driving city miles? or highway?

i'm currently getting anywhere from 230-260 miles per tank...and thats with some "spirited" driving.

those wheels DO look pretty heavy.

If you are doing a lot of highway driving then the car blows. I cant stay at 65 an when i dont my gas mileage suffers greatly. We really needed a taller 5th gear.

Yep that's appox 210 miles. All highway, I live about 1 min from the highway and it's 60 miles to work one way. I've been driving below 3500 RPM every shift and not above on the highway. No spirited driving at all, it's pretty bad.
Yeah wheels might be heavy, came with the car when I bought it they are Fireball typhoons the specs.
17x7.5
5x114.3
+40 offset
21.5 lbs per wheel
Silver with a polished lip.
They will be off in another month or so anyway, winters a coming. But might be the next guy that has to worry about it if I can't get the mileage up I can't afford to keep it. Mine as well drive one of my AWD Talons, it's cheaper.

Wow. I can easily get 450km from full to the point where the light turns on. Thats with some spirited driving included. When I have pushed my tank beyond the gas light (Which seems to indicate ~10 Litres of gas remains) I've gotten up to 525-550 km. My girlfriends hates the fact that my ralliart gets better mileage then her gutless VW golf. I'm installing a turbo within the week so goodbye mileage...

Few things.

1. Clean your MAF
2. Why do you need to oil your INjen filter? I thought they were synthetic....
3. Get lighter wheels
4. Make sure Cat is in tip top shape.
5. Your o2 sensors can be bad before you ever get a CEL.

Not all of the injen filters are synthetic, mine isn't, but as for everything else it should definitly help out. Not to mention removing any unneeded weight.

1. Cleaned it when I redid the bodywork/engine bay and interior, same time I did the filter
2. Because it needed to be oiled.
3. As I said they came with the car. Would have liked to have stockers but the guy didn't have them any more.
4. Cat is brand new I just bought it.
5. I have the receipts for the o2 sensors from less than 10,000 kms ago. They test fine, fist thing I tested after doing the intake.

I've owned Mitsu's for the last 12 years, worked on everyone of them never had a Mivec though. I just wanted to see if there was something that I missed and besides the valve adjustments I guess I have not. Maybe the car is just a lemon in the fuel consumption department. I'll know in the next few days on that. Worst case I sell and double my $$ on it I guess.

Reset it twice or three times already. I've put 3500km's on it the last 2 weeks so it should have adjusted itself where it needs to be by now.
