Repainting Badges

So the chrome paint is fairly chipped off my front and rear badges. I found the info on how to remove them and I was wondering about the paint.

I have some tremclad spray primer, black spray paint and clear coat. This would be fine to paint them with, right? Just wondering if it needs anything special done to it.

I would use some adhesion promoter first since it's plastic.
It's going to prevent from having the issue you had to begin with: paint chipping.

Most recognizable is BullDog adhesion promoter which you can find at Autozone, Oreily's, etc:

I thought about something like that but i was thinking the clear coat would protect it enough

Hmmm I just sanded it down and sprayed it lol... How'd you remove the front badge? I'm worried about breaking it.

The clear coat will protect it you are correct BUT it won't prevent it from chipping if you don't have good preparation.

Adhesion promoter does just that, it helps the paint adhere better to the plastic.

So I took them off in a minute with some floss....really easy. I'm gonna paint them over the next few days cause it will be a few coats so i'll need some time in between to let them dry.

I guess the usual way is to put them back with double sided 3M tape?

+1 Very nice. Wish I would have got these a loooong time ago when I did paint my emblems-bad idea by the way. Paint chips and looks like ****. I would advise not to do it

i painted mine with them on.. just put some painters tape around them, idk why you would waste your time with taking them off and having to put them back on

Cause I used to two coats of primer, two coats of black, and two coats of clear coat over the period of a few days. I didn't wanna paint them in one coat and have paint collection in any spots. And I had the paint already so i igured why not use it instead of paying for covers.

Kroelav....the front badge has three points that stick into the car. It's actually really easy to take it out though....I just pried a bit with my fingers and it came off easy enough that it never felt like it was gonna break.

Here's the before and after.

They look real good, I personally would've left the edges chrome though.
