it's a DIY intake with the box chopped off and the filter on the hose. I've had 2 filters, both Ractive and the sound was always there.

I'm not worried about it and it does sound like i'm packin something cool in my engine (which i'm not ) but I just wanted to know the science behind it.

Ooooo yeah that's right, it has to be the filter style , since it's covered around the sides and only opens at the top to let air in.... I'm personally convinced that's the reason.

it did it with an open filter as well with no heat shield. The filter before that one was ractive as well, but just a regular cone filter.

If only I had posted on this thread

hmm, fancy looking i guess, but are these actually functional vs a K&N or AEM dryflow filter?

I posted in another thread about them. Got mine at Canadian tire. Had an open filter before and it got a hole in it. From the old filter to the one with the heat shield, I haven't noticed any performance degradation.

hmm interesting, just from the look of the design, kinda seems the sheild covering the whole filter like that lets less air to it then an open one would. i mean the little holes there for the air arnt very big at all...but i guess its one of those you have to try out yourself i suppose.

if i had to get a rative filter it would be this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RACTI...mZ300485641120

i like that the heat shield goes around but the end is open, i have a modified snorkel that would shoot more cold air to it, my AEM dryflow on is blocked off at the top.

that's about what i paid at canadian tire. looks just as restrictive as mine. My old ractive filter didn't have a heat shield. looks good in the engine anyway...a translucent blue
