I have 165,000km on it. I just got the car a few months back and it's always made that sound. It's a manual. I had a hole in my old filter. just a regular style filter like the one RRM sells but it was Ractive. Now I have a blue filter like the one's in the pics above. I still dunno why it does it lol.

It's probably because that filter. Should switch to a regular one and get some sound clips.

I have an AEM filter and it makes the same sound. I don't think that's the reason. I can understand why his (and mine, and others) make the sound when shutting it off. It is kind of like relieving the car of excess air.. but I don't get why it does it on start up too.

idk if this helps or not but my brother had a 2002 sentra SER spec-v with a nismo short ram and nismo filter and it would make a rather loud purge sound when it was started and turned off. that is till it threw a cap threw the block! LMFAO

My buddy has a cobalt and every time he turns his car off, it makes a sound like that. I always give him a hard time saying that his car is passing gas or letting go of its last breathe of air and it won't start again. Not that I don't give him enough crap for driving an american car that wishes it was an import. Anyways, as far as I know it is just the last bit of air in the engine being released. I have only heard it when the car is turning off tho so I am not sure about when it turns on...

the sound actually comes on shutdown and....not when the engine starts, but when I put it into the accessory position. My engine isn't running in the video (the fan was running for a minute after i turned it off) but if you hear a couple clicks that's me turning the key to the accessory position to get it to purge. took two tries. weird.

Did it when I pulled up at a large gas station tonight. Got to the pump, shut off and it purged....I always get a few looks when that happens hahaha

Which is why I suggested getting sound clips of both (each filter).
