This thread is dedicated to basically better gas milage and/aerodynamics. I found a cool website that I think everyone can benefit from, although some ideas are not for the average Joe, I think there's at least 1-2 things that evryone would be up for to help themselves get a little bit more MPG/performance put of their car or cars. If anyone decides to tackle a project , post up some PICTURES, lol in this day there aren't really any good excuses not to.

Well I can say my baseline numbers on my totally stock car are 27-27.5 mpg. I drive 95 miles a day, of which roughly 80 of which is freeway. The one looong trip i have done which was 100 percent freeway didnt change those numbers. is this on par with you guys too?

 

You guys that are lowering your cars, what springs are you using? I'm planning to do this as well.

I had a thread quite a while back on Hypermiling the Ralliart. Best I could manage was 36 MPG in a day. Over a week, I could only hold it to 33 though. Didn't do any mods.

 

Lowering your car isn't going to improve your gas mileage. I'd even argue that it'd decrease it. All lowering springs for our car lower the front more than the rear, which will increase the angle of attack on both the hood, windshield, and spoiler, and thus increase the car's drag.

To improve mileage on the RA (or any car), here are the best options:

• Reduce the car's weight - don't carry crap you don't need.
• Reduce the rolling resistance on the car by running narrower low-resistance tires, increasing pressure
• Slow down, accelerate slowly, increase braking distance
• Keep your car in top mechanical condition
• Swap out 5th gear - I don't think anyone has done this with the RA but I've been really, really tempted to look into it. Drives me crazy that the car is over 3500 RPM @ 75 MPH.
• Reduce aerodynamic drag - keep the car clean, remove the spoiler, smaller side mirrors

 

I think im at about 15mpg.

 

Ever since I started doing this I've noticed a substantial increase in MPG. It's so hard to do on the pre/post work commute though!

 

yeah....you can see my profile at fuelly.com (like my link)...i tried not driving as spirited....using fifth more...more braking distance and so on....went from about 10.5L/100km to about 8.5L/100km from one fuel up to the next.

 

Well Otter, it's just Mitsubishi's usual strategy of doing things half assed.
No decent reason why we didn't get a 6th gear and an LSD.
