Cruise Control switch broken

Currently when pressing the cruise on/off button, nothing happens.

Before this (3-4 weeks ago now) my cruise control was acting funny for a few days, when pressing up/down to adjust speed on the freeway it'd turn on/off (like when you pull back on the switch to cancel). Then a few days after that started happening the light in the dash would no longer turn on at all (nor would the CC), then one day I tried again and it turned the light on in the dash but the CC wouldn't turn on, and then pressing the button wouldn't turn the CC light back off.

I tried again a few more times playing with it and the light turned off but and now pressing the button or toggling the switch does absolutely nothing.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Is this something I can try to fix myself? I have a leak in my AC and so I'm destined for the dealership anyway (SoCal summer with no AC has not been pleasant and will only get worse) but if there's any way I can try to fix it myself and not have to pay someone else to do it I'd love to try...

That was the first thing I checked, both are working and I've recently replaced them.

I think its the actual switch thats broken, or the wiring to it anyway...

Unfortunately, the switch doesn't seem to be available separately. At least, it's not listed as a separate part in Mitsu's parts lookup program. You'd have to buy a whole new steering wheel assembly, which includes a new $airbag$.

If it was my car, I'd try to diagnose it myself (I have an intense dislike for my local dealer and their 150% markup on parts) but would probably end up taking it in.

They can probably hook up an electronic tester and pinpoint the problem a lot faster than someone poking at it with a voltmeter.

You could always try searching online junkyards to find a steering wheel, but they probably won't sell you the airbag. Tell them that's fine, you really only want the CC switch anyway.

The CC switch is the same for any 04-06 lancer right?

I would keep the cc broke before buying a new steering wheel assembly.
