Replacement Key for 04 Ralliart

Hey everyone, I need some clarification. I have lost the key to my 04 Ralliart, and my research (searching the forums here, calling a couple locksmiths, searches online) have come up with conflicting results: Does an 04 Ralliart require a transponder key or not? If it does, what do I need to do to make sure whoever is making the key 1) gets it working correctly quickly and 2) doesn't charge me more than necessary. I have left a message with a local dealer, but I would like to be armed with information before I talk to them.

Thanks!

Well my 05 doesn't. As a matter of fact my backup key was done at wal-mart. You should be able to go to a mitsu dealership, give them your VIN and get a new key made if you don't have one at all. It's a little more expensive, but still much cheaper than a transponder key.

Our keys do not have transponders, therefore no need to bring to a dealership to get it programmed. Should just need to bring vin and something that can link you to the car to the dealership, they will get the key code from Mitsu and cut you one there. Golden.

Yup, got a hold of the dealer and they just needed me to come in with proof of ownership. DL and pink slip and voila! A new key and a spare just in case, for less than $35.

The fob is a different story, more expensive and they told me they need to program it to my car specifically. Can I do this on my own, or do I really need them to do it?

Your gonna have to bring in your car. It sucks but only they have the tools to do the necessary programming.

I had a replacement key cut at Home Depot for less than $2. I keep it in my car for when I go running and don't want to bring all my keys. Sucks you have to get the dealership to order one for you.

yeah the fob is the kicker...believe or not keyless entry hasn't always been a standard feature, lol...if you can live without it, then i wouldn't bother.

I programmed my fob myself. Can't remember the exact steps, but it involved a paperclip and hitting the hazard light switch 5 times, lol.

There's a how to on it somewhere on the forums, that's how I found out how to do it.

It's six times, not five. The paper clip is to ground DTC pin 1.

once i locked my car keys in my car once and ended up having to call my wife to bring me my spare about 45 mins away...when she got there we opened up my car...then realized SHE locked her keys in her car (she somehow accidentally locked the car getting out or something)...luckily in my newly unlocked car i had her spare...lol

ps 04RA doesnt need a special key...home depot and $4....and i got 2 spares now...(plus another $3 for one of those magnet hidden key things..lol)

i dont have the oe keyless remotes anymore(i bought the car w/ a viper alarm and everytime i tried to lock or unlock it w/ the oe remote it would set off the alarm...so i sold the 2 OE and bought a spare viper..lol)..plus audio shops are much easier to come by than mitsu dealer and cheaper to reprogram the fob, or u can do it yourself....also more secure w/ the alarm on it...
