START a TRACK PROJECT or Buy an EVO??
Hey guys I know I'm kind of missing in action. Since I remove the turbo from my car I have lost some of the passion I had for it, but now that passion for racing and for turbo has come back. I graduate last Saturday from college and I'm going to start working in Florida. So crossing the Caribbean from Puerto Rico to Florida, sounds exciting to me.
Ok here is the question for you guys:
Would you start a project again with the Ra'???
or
Would you buy an EVO 9 as a Daily Driving Vehicle???
The RA project will involve piston, rods, STAND ALONE ECU, reinforced tranny, gt30r turbo, precision turbo intercooler, engine oil cooler, tranny oil cooler, ETC... With the RA I would like to build a track car (1/4 mile racing) ...
I have the money to buy the EVO 9 but I want to be honest guys, I love my RA and looking at it I just want to keep it either stock or as a racing project...
Let me know your opinion and thanks....

When I first read your post I thought you meant a track project as in some sort of build your own kit track car or just buy an EVO.
I'd say just get an EVO if you want to setup a track car. If your talking about drag racing there are plenty of other cars that do that well without the need to turn all four-wheels.

if you can bring the RA over to FL, i would DD the RA and get an Evo 9 if you can afford it...just look at the for sale section here...evo 1-9 is always full of nice aftermarket parts, lancer 02-07, you can hear the crickets when i go in there...I think the Evo would be more cost effective as a track project and you'd get more out of it...money spent to get a lancer in the 12's could put an Evo in the 10's
First, let me say congratulations on finishing school, and on finding work so soon. It's not easy to do that these days.
I'm going to stray off topic for a moment. I don't know where you're going in FL, but there's a pretty good sized PR community here in central FL, and since you'll be in one of the states, you'll get your full voting rights as a citizen. Believe it or not, there are some people (even elected office holders) that think that Puerto Ricans aren't citizens of the US.
F*** them, I say welcome to Florida!
Now, to the point.
I'm going to make an assumption here: you actually have to work for a living.
Now you're fresh out of school and talking about buying an Evo. My suggestion won't be as much fun, but I have first hand experience with moving to start a new job and finding out that it wasn't a good fit for me. By that time I had blown all of my savings, and six years later I still haven't recovered from that. Plus, wait until you see the insurance rates on an Evo!
I think that it's fine to post the question and work on the ideas, but don't be too quick to get yourself into a hole.
So my vote would be to get a basic DD, since most of the expenses of the ralliart can be spaced apart at whatever pace you need or can afford. Build the RA and avoid the monster sized payment and insurance rates.
Good luck.

^ he has a point buy an evo 8/9. if you want the new x look without spending 30k buy the 08 ralliart. you would already have a turbo and you would have awd an ecu that can be tuned buy any guy who's tuned a x and insurance would be cheaper...maybe.
Thank you guys and I think all of you have a great point. First of all Im not looking to buy an EVO X. In my opinion the 9 looks better. In my Ra I used to have all the 9 interior including seats, cluster and steering wheel and honestly I was really happy with that. With respect to a project I know an EVO would give me better and already proven results. The only think I dont like about EVOs is that I would be doing something that has already being done and I like to work on new things. Im decided on moving my Ra to Florida doesnt matter how much it costs. I really love my Ra and as a DD or as track project I will keep that Ra. Its been with me for 6 years now and Im not planning to leave it with my fam in PR. Sounds cheesy I know but I know you guys will understand the love for that first car.
. I dont want to spent more than 18k on an EVO but let see what happens. I know that my first goal is to leavr a great impression in my new job and then think on a project. Thank you guys. Happy holidays....

Quite frankly, you will never get an RA to perform like an Evo, and you'll spend twice the money getting it to be as fast. Its not even worth it. Sell the RA, finance an Evo. Build the Evo.

You love your RA, no Evo will trump that.
You prefer to have something less common, unique even, that every Tom, Dick, Harry, Raquel and Shirley does not already have and has not already done. You cannot get that with any Evo.
If you think you have pride and affection for your RA now, imagine the orgasmic euphoria after a great day at the track, having built it to your dream specs.
RA all the way.

Evo, lets not kid ourselves. I own both a heavily modded RA and an EVO. EVO is so much better stock due to it being made to race. RA is a good DD, but the EVO is the way to go for power.
