New headlights, what is recommended?

So with Winter in Canada fast approaching I want to upgrade the headlights and maybe the fog lights in me 06 RA. What would you guys suggest? I have read about HID's but don't know what to get that would be the best bang for my buck. I've read on here that you shouldn't just replace the bulbs. What kit would you guys recommend???

Do you need new headlights for winter? If you just want brighter lights save some money and buy some nicer Sylvania Silverstars or another better bulb.

You can always buy some ebay projectors if that is the route you want to take.

What you read is that you shouldn't put HID bulbs in a non projector housing. They are dangerous and very hazardous to other drivers if not installed in the correct housing.

I don't need new headlights but the ones I got don't provide much visibility and come winter I will be traveling home in the dark. So I figure I should get something better and more illuminating. I have no idea which direction to go. New bulbs or get HID's?

for more light in the stock housings just pick up some silverstars or something. otherwise if you went with projector housings from somewhere like ebay then i would recommend HIDs assuming you get one with a decent cutoff

How about this? 32 million candle power should get you through the winter.

i used to have a set of sylvania silverstar ultra but they burned out after about a year...honestly...not too much brighter than stock IMO...

then i got a set of ebay 5k bulbs(again..not that much brighter...but bluer for sure) and they burned out after about 3 months....at the same time...on the freeway...at night...NOT COOL...luckily no1 else was near me on the road and the foglights were still on, and honestly i could see almost as well as w/ the headlights....i would say since the fogs are already in projector housings and alreadty pretty damn bright(for being foglights)
i would reccomend getting a HID kit for the fogs and just go that route..(i would if i had the $...and time)

so i ended up just reinstalling the OE bulbs it had in originally...
it'd sure be cheaper(dont have to buy all new housings) to go HID fogs....plus you can still upgrade the headlights if you want to...

I live in Northern Ontario, I used those on my Corolla and they worked pretty great. I'd definitely recommend them, went through more than one snowstorm with them. I'm glad someone told you about the HIDs, in our housings they would provide light yes, but you'd be killing everybody's eyes.

these are what i use...$60-70 for a pair at canadian tire, but they work very very well, people are always surprised at how well my headlights illuminate the road...now if we can figure out how to keep the fog lights on when the highbeams come on...

I would recommend getting HIDs from here http://store.euroeffects.net/. But as Evo AK said, you shouldn't put them in non-hid headlights. So you need to go big and pick up some projector headlights too.

I use the sylvania silverstars and don't notice them to be much differnce than stock.

my high beams don't provide me any more visibility than my fogs, so.... i never use my high beams and always have my fogs on.

the only 2 ways i know of is to rewire the foglights on their own switch independent from the headlights
or to turn the highbeams on then hold the stalk when turning them off wich actually not only keeps the fogs on while the hibeams are on, it also has the headlights on(both filaments in the bulb on at once...)...tho im not sure how safe that is to do...plus im sure it takes a pretty good toll on the life of the bulb seeing how its heating it much more than it's designed to normally operate...plus u have to hold the stalk continuously...and if u let go u gotta do it over..

i do the latter sometimes when im driving thru sections of really dark country-like roads...(no streetlights, dark and winding...etc)...im sure it kills the bulb quicker tho, but i still have oe bulbs, so im not sure how much/if any damage it does to the bulbs...(as far as i know they're the ones that came with the car...been removed and reinstalled several times but still the old ones)

and if u rewire the fogs u can also have them on when u dont have the lobeams on...wich i think looks best when u have the courtesy lights and fogs on...but the headlights off...
