Hi All,
I haven't been around much but I'm considering posting the process I'm going through on y race car.
For background, this is a 2002 Lancer rally car that we race in the NASA and Rally America rally series. It was originally built by Rhys Millen Motorsports and I bought it directly from them and have raced it since. This is a purpose built race car.
I started off running the 2.0 liter 4g69 and then went to the 2.4 Mivec motor. Doesn't sound like much but it took hp from 117 to 151.
Now I am going to a 2.4 hybrid motor from an Evo VIII. We hope to get about 300 hp from it. Should be easy.
My question is this. Is anyone interested in me posting about this? If I get a bunch of morons talking about how expensive or stupid it is I'll probably save my time.
What do you guys think?
Brad

I would be interested , but I'm also confused by your post. There is no 2.0 4g69 unless you destroked it. And the evo 8 never came with a 2.4 liter either, can you elaborate? Maybe post up some pictures of your past builds etc.
Yes, please post. Many of the 04-06 Ralliart guys who populate this patch of the forum have done excellent projects themselves and we understand and appreciate at a high technical level. The newbies are respectful and inquisitive. I'd be very surprised to see any juvenile posts. Give'er.
Hi, I'm interested.
If you can post about what the rules allow (not every detail) so that we can see the limitations you have to work within and then appreciate the effort that much more. It would help too for instance when you're using say a 6 inch wide tyre and you wont get a dozen comments saying the tyres are too skinny and that 10 inch Mickey Thompson's would be better.
Good luck.

Id love to see more details on this build! Im like lanzer though, when you say 2.4l hybrid do you mean doing a head swap onto the 4g69 block, or something else? Anyway Im interested I'd love see more technical builds and swaps, and details on Rally racing. So Im totally in!

woooot rally car build ftw! i think this will be a very interesting thread and a lot of people here are really into challenging mods. i just finished reading about the 4g69 swap into a 1.6L lancer from UK. that was a pretty sick build. and he was successful! i want to learn more about our cars and i think building it yourself is a very potent way to LEARN&ENJOY our beastly Ralliarts!

Sorry guys, I made a mistake. The original motor was a warmed over 4G94, not a 4G69.
The turbo motor going in uses the head off of an Evo 8 and the lower end out of the 2.4 Galant. I had Mike H at Built Industries (formerly Slow Boys) build the motor. It is commonly referred to as a long rod 2.4.
I will see if I can't post some pictures tonight of what it looks like including some cage pics. I have pics of the original FIA cage and also of the current cage with the updates. Which are you interested in?
I'll start taking pictures of the work and start posting as soon as we get serious.
Thanks for your interest

I think I speak for everyone here when i say: All of it!
Give us all the details and pics you can.
So the new motor is a 4g64 with a 4g63 head and turbo. Ive been trying to convince my brother to do that with his eclipse for a while... lol

WE WANNA SEE ALL OF IT

LOL i just had to
i know ive seen people post multiple times about how they're going to do a evo head swap, but i've never been able to find(or just forgot about it and have never seen) the end result...and specially not turbo'd it after...(or before)
i'd like to see the build and the results...
personally i wouldnt do it because i'm too broke and preocupied to fix my car lately, much less do serious mods to the engine...but still would like to see/read about it(in case i win the lottery u know...lol)
as said before, we'd be delighted to see/read about it..as well as the rules and regulations of your racing class for helpful posts...and of course the results!
don't forget there's always going to be a few people that disagree with what you're doing...but just ignore them and listen to the poeple trying to help

Thanks Nekkidlad, I appreciate the insight. This is not a simple thing and if people have to ask how, they probably shouldn't even consider it. My crew and I have done engine swaps, complete car builds, big fabrication etc. I know we can do it, it's the how, that needs to be finished. It's also what I will be asking the people here for help in figuring out.
Thanks
Brad
