Exclamation Cam gear for 4G69

Hi guys !

I talked with a person working at Works Engineering Canada and I asked him if they could produce a cam gear for our 2.4L engine.

He told me :

''Do you think lots of these would sell if we were to produce them? It would need to be a fairly large number.''

I think that yes, because no one but RPW in Australia do sell camshaft/camgear.
And still a lot of people tune this engine !

So what do you think ?

Help me here: how can an adjustable cam gear work properly on a single cam engine?

You can still ajust the timing and optimise the camshaft job for more power/economy and change the power band. I did order a stage 2 cam from RPW (they didnt want to sell me the HKS 272/300 lol). but I would like to have option to get a brand new (and adjustable) cam gear !!

*For now they want me to send in the extra camgear i have to take measurements

Ive tried finding material on this before. Apparently it slightly moves your power band in either direction. It will make it more low end torque or a stronger top end.

if this is the stock power band --^--
retarding might make it do this -^---
advancing might do this ---^-

its not a big difference.

And on that note. It depends on the price. For something that is only allowing minimal adjustment because it is a single cam I would expect it to be pretty cheap before I'll spend my money on it. Now on the other hand if it came with a camshaft that was made to somehow take advantage of that adjustablility then yea I'd probably be more interested.

bakuro is right, all it does is shift the power band...you can't tune intake timing vs. exhaust timing...

I also don't think they would sell in the volume that the manufacturer would require for production...It's something that's already on the market, and i don't even know of anyone that has one...

so adjustable cam gear is totally useless for single cam engine, since if you adjust intake it screws up the exhaust and vice-versa

Not at all mate !!! cam gear have no effect on the lift duration ! its the camshaft lobes !

Anyway, I just wanted to know if people here would have been interested. I still need a camgear ! it will give a better tuning.

no of course it does not change lift and duration, it changes the timing. Maybe for N/A guys wanting more top end with a higher rev limit...but it's not something that is going to sell like hot cakes...

you'd be better off just getting one from RPW...unless they can produce and retail them at a lower cost, then it would not be worth the trouble...
