Haltech 4G69 Support

Good news gents!

Haltech ESP now supports the 4G69 trigger pattern! You could use any of the Elite series line up to run your car now. With some wiring of course.

So speaking of wiring. I am actually working on a harness in my down time. I have two options I am debating on, which is why I made a poll for this thread. I want to see what you all think.

Option 1) I can make a complete adapter harness which will get rid of the factory ECU entirely. However, this will cut out the automatic guys and will be a bit more expensive. If I made the harness for the Elite 1500 which supports Drive by Wire. You're looking at a price tag of $1472 for just the ECU. Then another $4-500 for the adapter harness. So nearly a $2000 kit.

Option 2) I could make a parallel harness which will keep the factory ECU in the system to control the Drive by Wire, and automatic transmissions. However, it will use the lower end Elite 550 ECU. This ECU runs for $849. But the harness would be $5-600. Ending up with a $1500 kit.

Disclaimer, these may never reach production. As I cannot find the ECU connector from any distributor. I've had to pull the connector out of a broken ECU that was donated to me. I'm just trying to get an idea on which method you guys think would be preferred, in case I can make a limited run of these.

Thanks for suggesting and leading the development of the 4G69 engine and wiring at Haltech.

Would it be beneficial to have the ECU connector 3D scanned and printed instead? The costs of 3D printing have come down significantly over the last couple years so it might be viable solution if you can't find parts.

I'm not familiar with the Haltech ECU line up. How does the Elite 550 and Elite 1500 stack up compared to other tuning methods like reflashing ECU? What can they do that other tuning methods cannot?

Option 2 will makes the most sense since the cost to entry barrier is lower than Option 1 and offers more compatibility as well. Who knows, maybe it will work with 4G Eclipses and Outlanders too? Imo it would be pretty cool to run an Outlander with Evo drivetrain.

Yet playing devils advocate, if I'm already spending $1500 for Option 2 and I have manual car, why not go the whole 9 yards and get the Elite 1500 for the full Haltech experience instead?

Youre exactly right. Personally. I think the more expensive option would be a more complete package, although it does cut out the automatic guys...

Regardless the of the package. Haltech ECUs of any design are going to give you better control over your engine. Compared to the current reflashes and pieced together solutions. You'll get a product with a large company of enthusiasts backing it and ready to support you. You can tune your car live instead of flashing, driving, logging, reflashing, driving, logging, reflashing... And potentially bricking your factory ECU. You can integrate wideband O2s, EGTs, display dash, boost control, and a laundry list of other features with your setup. We have a LARGE network of dealers and tuners. And even if they aren't on our list, most tuners are familiar with our software, and actually prefer it to other systems.

And the features only get better as you go up the list of ECUs. This link will probably give you a better idea of what I mean.

Thanks for the PDF. That chart helps a lot more in differentiating between the Haltech line up of ECUs compared to the website and YouTube videos.

Another benefit I see with the Haltech setup is that the end user can remove their ECU and install it into another Ralliart if (knock on wood) they get into an accident or something. It's difficult to justify in buying something that locked down.

Here's an article about a guy 3D printing a proprietary connector for a Ford Escort mk1. Perhaps that is the direction to head towards for a low volume wiring build.
