Oil Filter Question

So I changed my oil to Mobil 1 today, I changed the filter at the same time to a Fram filter, I got the part # from the website for the 2.4 liter 2004 lancer motor. The Fram filter isnt as wide, but is taller than the stock mitsu filter. It threaded on nice and seemed to seal, my question is, does anyone think this is going to be a problem? Has anyone elsed tried a different oil filter yet?

-Mike

It shouldn't be a problem as long as it thread on properly. What is the part code for the fram filter. Where did you buy it from?

among filters frams are prolly ok to use but there are better made filters out there. if you are "concerned" about your evo the mobil 1 filter is good along with the amsoil, baldwin, and more, it has been discussed before.

to your question if the chart shows an interchange it should be fine. there are a number of reasons why filters for different motors should not be interchanged, if you are so disposed tryact this link:

the down load there has more

I got the filter at Lordco, and the part #was TG7317, there were 3 other kinds too, all ending with 7317.

Dealerships around here won't honour warranty unless a mitsubishi filter is used. The filter got updated though, the new oil filter for the ralliarts is longer and skinnier than the one I originally got on the car.

I used the Fram TG 7317 too, it seemed small but I haven't had any leaks are anything and I changed it over 2500 miles back.

BTW...95TsiAWD, that's the same line of crap the mitsu dealer gave my dad a year ago when he bought I lancer. He told them to stick up their A*& if they thought he was going to buy their over priced worthless products. That's just the dealer trying to take more money from you.

I dunno, $5-7 for a filter seems ballpark. The few mitsu filters I've cut open were definitely of superior construction than the FRAM or Quakerstate ones I've sliced open.

If you're only paying $5-7 for a mitsu filter, I'd like to know where you're purchasing them. The dealers around my neck of the woods are asking $14-17 USD for a oil filter.

Why would you upgrade to M1 oil and not also to their filter? The M1 filter is made to optimize the M1 oil. I've always used the two together in my cars. On an NA car using the 2 together I will go the 7.5k interval they suggest for normal conditions. So far it's worked great. I wouldn't think of it without the filter though.

Because I wasnt able to find a mobil 1 filter around town. Maybe for the next change I will. And Fram makes good filters, I would argue better quality than a mitsubishi filter.

I go with Purolator blue mainly because it's SAE tested and approved, but when that's not in stock I settle for Fram. I'm going to look at the size of that model and see if it will fit my OZ. I would like a larger filter on my car, but we can't go wider, just taller.

Always use a stock filter during warranty period...you don't want them giving you any crap.

I pay $5.75 a filter here in Michigan...thats for a OEM wide filter.

I used a long filter at first on my EVO and somehow it hung about an 1" below the control arm and during the winter some serious snow and pressure caused it to bend and start leaking. I about sh*t myself when the dealer said I was 2 quarts low! And then they said I had a bad oil leak...it turns out the longer skinner aftermarket filter was the problem.

After that I said only OE for me! I don't want to lose my engine at my expense because I bought a cheaper and inferior filter.

What if you had bought a more expensive superior filter?
