Have an acquaintance scratch your car with a key or something that'll really bite the paint. Tell your insurance company that you came out of the grocery store and some a$$h0le keyed your car all over. Fork over the deductible to a GOOD body shop (not Maaco!) and get a decent paint job. An accident last July (scraped front fender) worked for my paint, it can work for yours, too You won't have the car for a week or more, but at least it'll be a uniform color

Let's see, just to have the fender that was damaged painted (no dents or anything, just the paint scratched off to the primer) it was over $700. The guy who does my bodywork bought an Evo after working on my car (an OZ) so he cut me a deal on the rest of the front end. Then in November I almost totalled her- panel replacements and new paint came to about $6500, so figure the front end paint ran about $4500 incl labor (these guys actually get panels pretty cheap because they normally have to do some kind of prep and paint).

Seriously, if you have damamge that's severe, use your comprehensive insurance. Of course, you premiums might go up some at your next renewal, so keep that in mind. But over the life of the car an extra $10 per month is gonna be way cheaper than paying to have the car repainted on your own.

Well, its just a few scrathes. I'd have to pay 500.00 outright to get it fixed. So Iguess I should just deal.

Joe- Um, no. I asked them about this every three days when I'd call to check on the progress of my baby (31 days in shop ) Before they can consider the vehicle a total it has to surpass 70% of the value of a new car (then it was still over $12000 to get one off a lot according to my insurance company). Then, if it's between 70-90% of the value they can decide whether a repair is worthwhile (i.e. is it going to cost that much because there is cosmetic damage all over, or is it that expensive because the body shop needs to do fairly extensive work). Mine was the former case. I needed all new bodypanels up front, and the frame was only bend 5/1000". Mitsu tolerances are out to 7/1000" but my body guy like me and my car and said he'll get everything to 0/1000" tolerance.

Don't think my body guy is just expensive and that's why it cost so much. He's a select provider with my auto insurance- which means they go over all of his pricing with a fine tooth comb and he has regulations set by the insurance company that must be followed. In fact, my ins co wasn't happy about the car needing 31days in shop, but once the nature of the hold-up was disclosed they understood (couldn't source body panels during the holidays)

I think my paint may be bubbleing on the hood. I'm going to be sooooooooooo pissed if they won't fix it. Paint wouldn't bubble if it was applied right!

that's why i park at the back corner of the lot so nobody parks next to me

and when i go to a crowded lot, i usually find the last spot and park closer to the outer edge away from the car next to me
