n00b question on CAI

n00b question on CAI
I'm looking to get the injen cai but before I go and get it I have a few question.
1. Is hydrolocking really that common?
2. Can it be used in the winter? or would it have to come off?
3. What would be more benifical a one piece or a two piece design? (the one piece would get more power right, but wouldn't the two piece be able to be converted to a short ram?)
and finally
4. Our cars come with a short ram (don't they) so would converting a two piece into a short ram really give you that much extra power?

1) It is very hard to hydrolock our engines with a cai, dont worry about it.
2) Yes you can use it in the winter
3) IMO that one piece is more beneficial, its easier to install, a two piece could be converted to an sri but why do that when a cai will give u more power?

Our cars have a short ram, but the diameter of the intake opening is tiny compared to a larger cone filter.
The difference of converting a CAI to short ram vs. our stock "short ram" would be a lot more air flow, thanks to the larger surface area of the cone. But on a downside, you'd be sucking in a lot of hot air. If you were to get the Injen, just leave it as a CAI and don't drive thru any ponds

im a newbie to these also...could you have the short ram and the CAI together? I emailed Injen and they replied "We are in the process now. It will be sold as an extension for the Short ram. Since on that car we will be goin 3 piece for sure." I have an automatic trans and I wonder what would be the best setup?
It would be a fine setup once that comes out just to have the short ram with the extension. That way, you can leave on the CAI all the time if you wanted, but just have the capability to go to Short Ram in case the weather conditions are disastrous. I have an auto too; so I'm in the same boat as you....just waiting on the product to be released!

if money is an issue, just wait for a few turbos to come out. all the suckers like myself will prob be selling our CAI's, as the turbo will most likely replace it. Or just keep shopping around. I just got a RRM CAI on ebay for $100. Watch the priv for sale forums, too.

I just jack up the front driver wheel to clean my filter. Have to pop off that little plastic guard, but only takes ~5 mins to get the filter off. Dont see why you would take the entire intake out for that
