I honestly think that versions of the STi and the Evo 8 prepared to GT standards would do quite well. The are realtively light (compared in stock trim to the other GT vehicles), very agile and although down on power, they should be able to be fairly competative. Of course it all depends on the shop which enters them, but I think they have the potential to be very competative. That said, I don't know if anyone is going to put up $500k a season to campaing an Evo, but if I had it (and was good enough), I would.

I dont think it would have a change, mazda tryed doing the protege and didnt do to well. I Think the ralliart on the otherhand has a good strong platform to build on and Im sure we could top out around the max BHP limit for the TC group. I've heard that alot of people do go and race wiht out lots of support, most of the people there are volinteers and are doing it for fun. All you need is a race licence and a car I think.

I was told it would cost about $ 500K to get the Evo prepped for a GT season

Please leave RRM out of this. If they go off and spend all that cash on racing, the cost of my parts are going to go up!! I can barely afford mods as it is.

Uh... actually Mazda did really well, and even won a few races (Laguna Seca 2003 comes to mind). They're a really good team... but since all TC and GT top teams are marketing oriented and the Mazda 6 is far from a tuner's dream, they're strugling a bit this year. If they only went after performance, they'd do much better... 'cause they'd have continued to develop the Protege. But since it's not sold anymore, they had to go with a new model. It's a shame really.

By the way, don't miss the next round of TC and GT on Speed this coming sunday... for those of you who never saw one of these race, you'll be delighted! These guys (and gals) always give it all they've got!!!

Sportscar magazine just had an article in it about the SCCA wanting more forced induction cars in their National Events. T1 and T2 classes specifically. Years ago the SSA and SSB classes had Dodge Shelbys with turbos, Mirages with turbos etc. The article said how the SRT-4 will be put into T2 and the STi and Evo will be in T1.

Also, I know that the Evo is eligible in the Grand-Am GS class:
http://www.grandamerican.com/CONTENT...%207-20-04.pdf

I would think the Ralliart could fit into ST.

You look at a Speed World Challenge or GA Cup entry list and you see RX8, Neon SRT-4, Sentra, IS300, 350Z, Mini S, BMW 330i, etc. No Mitsubishi. In fact, Nissan 350 Z of Unitech Racing just won the last GA Cup race against 911's, CTS-V's, Firebirds, NSX's, but again no Evo.

In Australia they race Evo's in the Procar GT series like a champ.
www.procar.com.au

The Ralliart would be competitive in the ST class of GA Cup or the touring class of Speed WC I would imagine.

Who knows maybe a class in SCCA Natiional racing will be made for the Evos, STi's, and cars like that.

All these cars in GA Cup all the other in Speed World Challenge. Lets hope you see an Evo like this in these races in the future. Or better yet a Ralliart.

Mitsubishi's gig has been Rally races. Lets hope someone gets a Ralliart or Evo out on blacktop and not dirt.

Considering Finbarr pulled all factory motorsports sponsoring, I doubt any of this could happen. Remember, they got into rallying the Evo first. Trying to put a Ralliart in a tarmac class would be a very distant second.

Still, all it would take is some rich dude who loved Mitsubishis to start his own company campaigning Evos in GT or Ralliarts/Eclipses in Touring Car. That would be nice.

Good call man. It will take a privateer who loves Mitsubishi. There used to be cool 3000GT's and Eclipes and Talons raced at the Nelson Ledges 24 hour race. They were campaigned I think by Doug Wolin who was a Mitsu. Dealer.

An SCCA National class created for Evo's, STi's, etc. would be the easiest way to get some on the track. After that a Ralliart in World Challenge or GA Cup would be next.

Hell, I'll take more guys autocrossing for now, but it would be cool to have a road race team in some form of Mitsubishi. They would be the only one but they sure would be popular.
