Question Fog Lamps

Did anyone else notice that their fog lights will only come on when the headlight switch is turned to full on (not just the running lights)? Is this the same with everyone elses? I would rather when driving in fog , not have the headlights on and be able to turn just the fog lamps on. I know here in Ontario anyways we have daytime running lights but they are dimmer than turning on the actual headlamps by the switch.

All late Mitsus do that.I check the fog light switch in my Galant and it has a little circuit board in it so I think it wiil be a little difficult to modify.

Its also the law, you cannot have ONLY your foglights on without your headlights being on at the same time. at least thats how it is here in va

i wish it was that way in SC, I'm sick and tired of A**holes, driving around with just fogs at night. it throws of my depth perception and makes it harder to judge distances to oncoming traffic.

bmws have the ability to have driving lights on with only parking lamps and no headlights on, thats stock ****, so i dont see a problem it is only illegal to drive with foglights, a fog light is yellow, a driving light is white, we have "driving" lights according to DOT regulations i have been told by several police officers

In WI, at least, driving lights alone are fine. The law states that after dusk, you must have at least 2, but no more than 4, forward-facing white lights.

I'm trying to find if the law says anything about yellow fog lights...

If the circuit board you mentioned is anywhere else than built into the switch, I don't see a problem in rewiring the switch so that it bypasses the circuit. You probably would have to find the power leads and lights wires and link them directly to the switch... If any of you guys attempts this, let me know and I'll be able to help you out. Just post some pics so I can make sense of the circuit board and various wires around it...

BTW: If the mod cannot be done by rewiring the existing circuit, just run 12v DC current (adding a fuse, of course!) from your fuse box to the switch and then to the driving lights and your good to go. Of course, only one lead needs to go to the switch, not both of them! If anyone is interested, I may take the time to put a schematics up...

WARNING: Both these methods may render the dashboard indicator inoperable (not that big a deal though)... depending on the way the dashboard LED is inserted into the circuit.

I was just thinking about jumping a wire from the parking lights to the relay for the driving lights, so whenever I turn on the parking lights the DLs come on, too.

Thumbs up

Good idea! I might just try that myself! This sounds like the most practical way of doing it...
