wrong offset problem
wrong offset problem
I bought rims with tires off my friend because he was selling them at a cheap price. They are Enkei evo 5, 17 x 7 with offset 35
( i know it should be 40 , 42) that come with Nexen N3000 215/45/17 rubber 99.9% tread left. I have stock suspension. They were no problem to put on and when I was done after dropping the jack and having the car sit on the ground, the wheels did not stick out so I thought it was ok. The front was fine I was able to turn and no rub. The back was another story. It looked as if there was no gap at all and the very top of the sidewall is hitting the inside lip. But if I roll the fender I think if I hit any slight bump it would rub bad as well. I called up a local rim machine shop and they said they can only machine the inside of the rim to change the offset only on steel rims.
So my question is, if I went down to 205/45/17 will that be enough to clear that fender lip and eliminate rub despite the offset because if so If all else fails I'll probably just sell the rims. Any suggestions appreciated.

With the 205 tire your sidewall will be 10mm thinner than the 215 so if its only rubbing a little than the 5mm difference might just clear it. Only thing tho is if you ever plan on dropping it, you might have the same problem again, but you won't be able to solve it by getting smaller tires. Try contacting Neal from tirerack. He could probably help you better.
