Brake pad problem

So on my trip I heard a clunk come from my brakes and then some grinding. When I inspected all my breaks it was very obvious that it was because the outside back drivers side brake pad clip broke off on the forward snapped off. I replaced the pads on both sides with new Duralast Gold pads. I drove no more than 5miles in slow stop and go traffic and I heard the same sound. The same clip bent on the same pad.
I took everything apart and the only thing I noticed was the rotor had some scratching on the lower inside from rocks that were very lodged inbetween the dust shield and brake assembly. I asked the guys at the parts store and he said he would rebuild it all....do you think the rocks could have put some wierd pressure that would be causing this?

On the upside I finally installed my Swift springs!

the calipers were a little stiff sliding wise when i took them off the second time but once i got them loose they seemed to slide fine and they are still sliding fine. Guess they could have gotten stuck for some reason. but wouldn't explain why the it happened to the first pads, since i drove with them for about 2weeks before it happened

Inspect the inside of the caliper and make sure the centering holes for the pad aren't damaged. If the pad is moving against the caliper and breaking the clip then something is wrong with how the pad is mounting.
