Official Wicked White Lancer thread
Thanks!
There are several ways you can go. The most common is plasti-dip...not sure if you're familiar with it, but it's basically spray on plastic that peals off when you want and doesn't harm the paint.
What I did was had an accident and had the shop who did the repair used flat black paint on the center piece. That pic above is me covering the many, many chips and a scrape from some douche backing into me...you can see my license plate was folded back on the top left corner. Anyway, I used some Bumper & Accessory spray paint from O'Rielly's (Kragen) that is flat black...my daughter and I masked it off and I did about 4 coats with 10-15 minutes in between each coat. What I like about this is that it's flat black and looks OEM...meaning it has the kind of plastic-bumper look...but also, it filled in the chips so it's all smooth...it even covered a drip from my stupid overspray. In about 6-10 month's I'll probably do it again to keep it looking good.

Right after I posted I checked out some threads on blacking out the center portion of the bumper and saw Plasti-Dip mentioned. Watched some Youtube videos and its seems to be a decent enough product, so I'll give it a try. I do like how you left the chrome trim strip visible - most black it out as well, but I think it adds a little visual interest to leave it chrome.
Yeah, Plasti-dip seems to be one of the easiest ways to blackout, considering you can easily remove it when/if you want.
And yes, contrary to the many, many suggestions, I have no plans on blacking out the chrome part of the grill...I like it this way.
Don't forget to post some pics of your blacked out grill.
Got this a week ago, just blacked out the front-end over the weekend. Suspension and wheels in the near future!
These cars are brilliant to drive, very stoked with it.
