Just ran across this site:

More expensive, but worth it if they'll keep your oil nice and clean. While you're at it, throw on a strong magnet.

Interesting, but is the 20-ish dollar difference really worth the performance? Why not just toss a strong magnet on the $10-15 oil filter?

Those particular filters are claimed to last 2 to 5 years. Kind of a scary thought, but if the description is true, then they should kick ***.

If the filter can truly filter down to 10-5 microns than it may be worth trying regardless of their "filter life" claim.

That's what I found to be the most impressive, too. $20-30 isn't that much to spend every other oil change at least. Especially is you're really trying to make your car last.

On a somewhat similar note, someone on the X engine forum informed me that the oil is filtered after the oil pump, which means that with a little bit of hardware, you can install a pre-luber type device without drilling into the block. Another good way to prolong engine life.
