Exhaust system parts explaination
I'm a noob when it comes to aftermarket exhaust system parts. I wiki'ed up on exhaust parts but I'm still a bit confused on which part does what and the pros/cons. Please answer some of my question and modify my words down below so I can understand exhaust terminlogies better. Thanks
Starting from the engine to the exhaust tips:
1) Turbo-back: header for cars with a turbo? Or is it what connects the header to the cat converter?
2) Catalytic converter: Reduces emission but creates slight back pressure thus undesireable for some tuners.
3) Test pipe: A straight pipe that replaces the cat converter, no flow restriction but you won't pass an emission test with it on and is street illegal?
4) Cat-back: a.k.a a mid-pipe? The tube that connects the outlet of the cat converter to the muffler?
5) Muffler: Reduces noise level, stock ones are very flow restrictive because they were made to reduce noises not performance oriented. Aftermarket ones will provide better flow, but if you keep everything before the muffler stock will you still see a performance gain?
6) Exhaust pipes: Exhaust tips are part of the exhaust pipes? Larger diameter exhaust pipes are better and produces louder sound? Do people usually purchase these pipes along with an aftermarket muffler?
Am I missing any parts in between? The full exhaust system that Ultimate Racing is selling, does that include all the parts above? If I just want a slightly deeper non-ricey sound, a slight performance gain, and to get rid of the ugly stock exhaust tips, should I just replace the muffler and the exhaust pipes? Thanks.

I think you got most of it right. Although I believe "Turbo back" refers to replacing the exhaust system from the turbo, back. The part you are referring to here i think is called the down pipe.
^Turboback includes the downpipe, cat/test pipe, mid pipe and the muffler section. The exhaust manifold or headers are the headers on a turbo car. The downpipe connects the turbo to the exhaust system.
