Need help with tire size

Hey guys need some help here, I finally found summer rims that I like. Need help clarifying couple of things, what is the widest tire that fits on RA. I am hoping I can go with 235/40/18, the sales guys is telling me that it will be way too big and recommends 225/40/18, while every tire calculator tells me that 225/40/18 is too small compared to stock. So the question is, would 235/40/18 fit, will I have any rubbing issues? From GTS posts I see that somebody was able to get 235 working, I guess I would like to make sure before I spend hard earned cash. Thanks everyone!

How wide a rim are you looking at.

18x8.5s?

both will fit on 8" fine...

225/40 - your speedo will read 2.1% faster when ur going 60mph you're really doing 58.8mph
235/40 - your speedo will only be off by 0.8% so when your going 60mph you're really doing 59.5mph.

rubbing will depend on the offset of the wheels and whether you've lowered the car.. but by going off that your car is stock you wont have issues rubbing..

The stock size should fit 18x8. I have stock Dunlop's and their site says 7-8 width it works
EDIT: woops, you're looking for widest tire.

I would go with a 235/40/18 on an 8" rim. No point in staying with the stock size on nice rims.

Hey guys I'm kinda newbish when it comes to rims and tires what do these numbers
mean 225/40/18?

Also should I drop my car first or get the wheels and then drop it.

I don't want any rubbing I'm most likely going to do a 1 inch drop.

225= width in mm ( higher number=wider tire)
40=ratio of sidewall to tire width (sidewall is 40% of tire width) (lower number = shorter tire)
18=wheel size
