Exhaust Question

Hey guys,

I'm a real noob when it comes to different parts of the car. I know the general, I just don't know what each part does. If you could take 5 minutes to tell me what each part of the exhaust does that would help a lot, mostly because I was looking to upgrade my exhaust system with UR, I just don't know what I'm getting and what each part does.

Reference: http://www.ultimate-racing.com/Produ..._Exhaust.shtml

3" Test Pipe
3" Resonated Test Pipe (Is there a difference between these two? they look very similiar)
3" Mini-Muffler Test Pipe
3" High-Flow Cat (Ceramic)
3" High-Flow Cat (Metal)
3" Short Downpipe

Thanks

theres only 3 main parts... a lot of those options are for the same part.

the downpipe goes from the o2 housing to the catalytic converter... so once you get here you can go high flow cat, test pipe, or resonated test pipe. resonated test pipe will be quieter but still opitimal flow, muffled test pipe same thing makes it a little quieter but its still a test pipe... the high flow cats are a little more restrictive but keep it legal (test pipes dont pass emissions testing) then it goes to cat-back (which goes from your test pipe/cat selection all the way to the muffler)

Thanks!

And one more quick question for anyone with time. Can you rank the parts from loudest to quietest. (I'm looking for the least amount of noise, best setup I can get)

from loudest to quietest... test pipe, resonated test pipe, test pipe with mini muffler, then high flow cat is quietest

if you want to keep it quiet and legal get a high flow cat, if you want to keep it quiet and get that extra little bit of power from the test pipe than you can go that route

then i believe you can add another mini muffler to the setup too.

someone on here is selling a ultimate racing exhaust still in the box... for sale cheaper than on the UR site

someone on here is selling the exact setup you are looking for... and it would be way cheaper.
A high flow cat is not street legal. As the law reads, the only legal option is to leave all exhaust components, from the cat forward, stock. When they go bad, they must be replaced by OEI parts.

That said, not sure I've ever heard of anyone getting in trouble for having a high flow cat, unless it didn't do a good enough job to pass some state emission tests.
