Final Decision - RA

Hey guys,

Okay, so after reading that 22 page debate I felt that it would be necessary to begin a new thread to eliminate the risk of the update being lost in the swamp of argument.

I was at the dealership today and test drove the GTS, which was really pushed on me by the dealers because of my age. Personally, I didn't really feel that it had the "kick" I was looking for - I currently drive a 2003 Lincoln Aviator SUV (Which has 302 HP) and after driving the GTS I felt that my Avi had more of a kick (even with its weight and size) I was offered the GTS - sunroof, soundsystem, etc. for its average price.

Really, I have my heart set on the Ralliart for its performance. The Ralliart I would be purchasing (Going back to the dealership tommorow) would be wicked white, Recaro Seats but would not have a sunroof / navi.

So those are my options, I have 24 hours to think about it:

1. Lancer GTS (Sunroof, blah blah blah) - basically fully loaded excluding the navi - it has paddle shifting as well.

OR

2. Ralliart with Recaro Seats, no Navi and no Sunroof.

I'm pretty deadset on the Ralliart, and the lack of a sunroof will not be enough for me to change my mind.

Regardless, I would still really like to know what you guys think about the decision I have to make. And please exclude the fact that I'm young, danger and all that. Hopefully by this time tomorrow, I will have already purchased my brand new Ralliart.

Oh, before I forget, pricing wise, I would probably be getting the Ralliart for $35,000 4 year financing. The insurance issue has already been resolved in my previous thread and the GTS is not much different than the Ralliart from what you have told me.

Thanks guys!

I was going to say Ralliart until i saw that price. Is that seriously the price in Canada? I can get a RR GSR with SSS for $27,999 here in SOCAL on a local special. 7k less for an Evo, WTF?

The "other issues" had nothing to do with costing more than an Evo, but rather his age, danger, etc.

Ralliart is the obvious choice since you will be miserable in the GTS and end up losing money later trading it in on something you would prefer.

Do what you want, and get the RA. That sensation of inadequacy that you feel in the GTS won't go away. Just in general, would say this with any car even a Ford Pinto, drive safe and most of all, ENJOY IT!! You should look into performance driving classes, i still am, and possibly AutoXing where you can really enjoy the car's capabilities.

I'm actually baffled that a dealership tried to get you to buy a cheaper car. Crazy canadiens. Definitely go with the RA.

35,000 Canadian dollars = $28,592 US dollars (current conversion rate).

$35,000 US dollars for an RA....

Congrats man! Did you ask the dealer about getting the navi option? They may be able to work something out with another dealer and have it delivered, or order the factor option and upgrade before you take delivery.

The only reason I ask is because I hate to see anyone get into something they might not be 100% happy with. There have been a lot of guys on the site here asking about getting Recaro seats, navi, etc. all after they bought their car.

Anyway, congrats!I hope you enjoy the new car.

Plus we always do worse then actual conversion rate :/

He'd be pushing $40k for Nav package. (it's a 5k option) I went for it, it's actually quite a bit you get, sunroof leather recaros Navi 650w fosgate and a few other things. Like Sith said, if you think you'll be "I wish I had gotten that Nav" later on, then seriously consider getting it, but if you know it's nice but something you can live without, then save the 5k for other things (tint, stereo whatever...........definitely a tint though :P)

My total bill out the door was $46k and change (that's not including interest @ 2.8% over 5 years) did I give some of you US people a heart attack there? lol
All our auto prices are jacked up compared to USA though. (cept maybe chryslers and GMs ..... )

I don't have an RA, but I did have an 08 GTS before my Mazdaspeed 3. I say go for the RA. You won't be happy down the road with the Lancer and will constantly say "I should have bought the RA". The Lancer has its place, but if you are even CONSIDERING a car like the RA, then def avoid the Lancer...its just not what you will be happy with down the road once the new-car feeling starts to wear. Especially since you are looking at the GTS with CVT.... the paddle shifters on it are novelty and will wear off quick...the SST is the FAR better tranny, and actually has useful paddle shifters.

when i went to my dealer here in maryland, they tried to sell me the GTS with max options over the RA..... once they knew i was absolutely deadset on a RA, they gave up quickly. i think it has to do with the GTS with all the extras = more profit for them than a base RA (which is what i got).

the extras like gps are all fluff, they make so much money on that crap.
