When should I get an oil change?

I have 2000 miles on my '09 RA, I have gone on three 300 mile road trips and the rest is mix city/highway with also a mix of hard/normal driving. All in summer temperatures and 75% of the time the A/C was on. When should I get my first oil change??

I did my first oil change at 1000 miles. Then again at 3500. It all depends on when you feel comfortable changing your oil.

I was a little late doing my first oil change (@ 1,200). I'll be following Mitsubishi's maintenance schedule from now on. I'm not doing any harsh driving on the car for now, but I'm still probably going to follow the severe maintenance schedule (changing oil every 3,000 miles or so).

Just follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.

Yeah, I want to follow Mitsubishi's Severe Maintenance Schedule but I always hear people on this forum saying that they do their first oil change early so that's why I was asking. I have to make my 300 mile road trip back home so maybe I should change the oil before I go? Or should I wait until I get back?

This.

Changing your synthetic oil under mileage is a waste of money.

It all depends on usage, if you do a track day i'd reccomend cutting that oils life in half.

If you can afford a $35k car you can afford a $21 oil change pretty often

$21? I wish lol, try almost a hundred at dealer, probably 50+ to do it myself (CAD, I'm guessing US would be about 40 for self and 60-70ish at dealer?) Synthetic is NOT cheap stuff.

Nobody in this section is doing any intense racing, the trans can't handle it due to overheating.

Just follow the maintenance schedule.

Maybe where you are, I can assure you I can't get synthetic for under $40 CAD (if it's on sale) and dealer filter is around $10ish, that's $50 CAD (fine that's canadian, converted to US still well over $40, plus the fact I'd have to find somewhere to do it (I can't do it where I am now). Saying an oil change is only $21 for all people is unrealistic, I'll be spending about 95$ every 3 months (less really more like 2.5) But like you said I paid a decent amount for the car, and I knew the costs going in, so I don't mind doing it. Just saying your $21 oil change doesn't fly (not for everyone at least)
