Exhaust burning Foam under backseats

I was reading in the Evo X section about single exit exhausts burning the foam and sound deadening under the backseats of the Evo X. I am curious if this could have an affect on our vehicles as well. I am gonna try and check tonight just in case.

Here is the thread.

that thread is a single incident...

..and if you read it you would see that the OP changed his exhaust .

this would have nothing to do with our RAs'.......

....unless you changed your exhaust and made the same mistake he did.

This guy knows it's about aftermarket SINGLE exhaust, not stock RA exhaust. So, really, this concern still does apply to RA owners with a single exhaust.

07outty there are other reports about the same thing in that thread. I read all 6 pages, it has now been discovered that it could be an ambient air and chemical reaction with the stuff under the seat. It is all discussed by Eric from AMS on page 6.

I believe in all cases the heat shield Mitsubishi put in place was removed.

Has nothing to do with exhaust guys. Its not even close to that area. There are 3 cases of cars with completely stock exhausts doing the same thing.

I checked our Evo X today, which has been raced HARD on drag strips and road courses and it shows very minor compared to most in the thread. My Ralliart has none yet.

Moral of the story, don't remove heat shields that the engineers have put into place for specific reasons.
