Recommended Reading Materials

It has come to my attention that a fair amount of new members on this forum don't have a firm grasp of exactly what they are doing or why, when it comes to modifying their cars. You should understand exactly why you are doing what you are doing before you do it. This thread is not intended to step on anyone's toes. These books and papers are designed to explain to you, in a nutshell, how your vehicle works. I promise you that if you read these books you will make better decisions when it comes to buying necessary parts for your cars. If you do not possess an automotive background, these reading materials are a little more than a passing suggestion.

Book List:

1). Maximum Boost - Corky Bell
2). Engine Management: Optimizing Carburettors, Fuel Injection and Ignition Systems - Dave Walker
3). Street Turbocharging - Mark Warner
4). How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems - Jeff Hartman
5). How to Make Your Car Handle - Fred Puhn

Excellent Papers:

1). http://www.gadgetonline.com/U-Tune.pdf <= Required
2). http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=258035 <= How-To: Read a Compressor Map (Will Help Your Understanding of Maximum Boost)

That is all that I can think of as of this moment. PLEASE ADD TO THIS LIST! My goal is to learn along with the rest of you.

I would agree with you. I'm sure I have some links I've gathered over the years, I just need to look. To start with:

Really Really Cool Build Thread: http://highboostforum.com/forum/show...of-a-Race-4g63

I know that that isn't really vital information, but reading that should give you an idea of what is what inside an engine. It is very nicely illustrated, too.

It's tough read, but Milliken's Race Car Vehicle Dynamics is a bible of sorts.
