warranties

Hi all-

Given the current exchange rate of the US and Canadian dollar, car prices up here in Canada are ridiculous.

I could go the US, buy a Ralliart, pay state tax, plus all import taxes and fees, and the total price would be just a few hundred more than the base price of a Ralliart up here without any taxes added. After you add Canadian taxes, we're talking a net difference of $7000+ between buying in Canada and the States.

The problem is that Mitsubishi wouldn't honor the warranty of a US car that was imported to Canada.

So, my question, does anyone know of any 3rd party companies that do warranties of this sort of thing- sell a warranty to replace the Mitsubishi one- almost like a kind of insurance.

I just want to be sure i fully know what all the options are, because it's so tempting to get my Ralliart in the US right now.

Be sure you compare apples to apples. For starters, the Recaro seats are not a standard feature in the USA. That is a $2750 option, and they arent even heated. Granted that does come with the RF audio (no Navi), but just saying it really isnt THAT different once it works out.

That said, usully aftermarket warranties are around $1500-2000 if you want it to match the dealer. So, in the end, no real savings at all.

Yeah, i realize it's not an exact comparison. But i'm hard pressed to believe there is $7000 worth of differences. So depending on the package and features, i may still come out ahead with a third-party warranty. Guess i'll have to do some more number crunching.

Anyone know of some companies that sell these warranties?

I wonder if the 3rd party warranty companies realize that our tranny cost $9k US and that is without any labor. They will probably look into the RA and see that cost and charge u the $7k u are saving just in a warranty plan.
