Headlight issue

Im not sure if this is in the right spot but it looked as good as any.

First off I just picked up my 2010 RA Sportback on Thursday and have loved every second of it. Ive already done the black out on the nose ring and window trim thanks to threads on here.

However I have one small issue with the car, the headlights seem to be pointing very low. I know there is a switch on the dash to adjust the headlights but it is at 0 which should be all the way up. At this position the headlights cut off at about 3-4 car lengths in front of the car. I know the projectors produce a _/ shaped cut off but the left side/lower of the cut offs seems very low.

Is this normal? Is there a mechanical adjustment on the headlights themselves to help raise them?

Its only if you have the projector HIDs. I think you might want to try setting at a higher number if you already havent. If that doesnt solve your prob, back to the dealer. Someone will chime in here and help you out.

I had mine on 0 at one point, I found it way to low. I keep mine 1 or 2 clicks higher.

0 = all the way down, not up

0 is the highest u can get.. maybe try looking for a projector alignment guide online?
if i remember correctly, park ur car perpendicular (on a flat surface of course) to a wall 20 ft away ... the cutoff should be 2 inches lower than the height of ur projector ...

try that test and if its definitely lower ... bring back to dealership ... u have 1 full yr of "adjustment"

Correct 0 is as high as it goes, although I'm not exactly sure why you would ever drive with anything lower.

I'm familiar with the process of using the wall to measure light drop as I had to do it to my GTI on a couple occasions after adjusting the suspension. However after a quick check I couldn't find any form of adjustment on the headlights that looked familiar.

I went by the dealer on Sat but Service had already closed. I showed my sales guy and we took it into the service drive since it was a little darker. Pointed the car at a cinder block wall and backed it up about 15 feet or so. With rough measurement the headlight was at the top of the 4th cinder block from the ground. The beam cutoff was at the top of the 3rd cinder block. So rough calculation is that the headlights hit the ground at about 60 feet. Since Service was closed my sales guy is going to talk to the Mitsu tech (its a Sabb, Hummer, Saturn, Mitsu dealer) today and let me know what he recommends.

Took the car to the dealer this morning. It took some time but they got it resolved.

I dropped the car off in the service drive and went to the waiting room. About 15 min later the service adviser came back and told me there wasnt anything they could do. "Its a sealed headlight and it cant be adjusted", as soon as he said this I knew they didnt try. Being sealed has nothing to do with adjustment. I then asked if they could call Mitsu and ask if they knew how to adjust the headlights.

He then goes and talks to the Mitsu tech who brings the car back into the shop, me following this time. After 5 min he finds the headlight adjustment. Its a small tan plastic 5mm "bolt" on the headlight housing. However both are hidden by other things in the engine bay. The drivers side is behind a small relay housing in front of the fuse box. The passenger side if behind the washer fluid tank.

I was able to get a pic with my cell phone, but its not very good. Hopefully it gives people enough to know what to look for.

The tech raised the lights a few inches, Ill see tonight if it worked.

The projectors only have 1? When I blacked out the chrome on my non-projector light, they had 3 adjustment per headlight.

Well, the tech said this is the first one they have had come in for anything other than an oil change. I think I have the only RA in Baton Rouge, havent seen another one on the road and have only seen one Lancer. I don't mind them knowing, as long as they are willing to try and figure it out or listen to me when I tell them how to do it.

He stopped searching when he found the one that fixed the issue. Im sure there is one for side to side adjustment but there wasnt an issue with side to side.

youre right, but it seemed like they were being pretty closed-minded about the whole thing in the beginning, without even taking the time to look it up. plus, projectors are an option on nearly all lancer trim levels now, you'd think they would at least know how to adjust them. either way, as long as its fixed, thats all that matters

Yeah I guess I wasnt too put off by their first "non attempt" because I knew I could call Mitsu and talk to someone about it. I used to call VW before I even went to the dealer and have contact info ready for them on new recalls and service updates.

I have the same issue on my 2010 RA Sportback, set at '0' the lights point way too low, set at 1,2,3 etc. and they gets progressively lower. So I just printed out the pic above and will try to do this myself one of these evenings. Thanks for the help. Cheers.
