Good Pricing on New '09 RA?

Hey everyone! I'm shopping for a new RA and found a new '09 and got $22,878 out-the-door by calling the dealer. It is a Rotor Glow Metallic, 400 miles, carpet mats, remote start, and alloy fuel door. It has bluetooth, but I'm not sure if that is standard or not. It doesn't have navi or the Recaro package. The list was $27,878. The dealer offered $5000 off since it was a demo and then took $2000 off for the manufacturer's rebate. I am buying this vehicle and not financing. Can anyone comment on whether I should bite on this deal or try to get more off of their offer? I was thinking it would be a great deal if I could knock off another $1000. Anyone have experience with dealers not budging on their offer, but making up through throwing accessories in?

If you got this price by simply talking on the phone, you should have some more bargaining power when you show up in person. Have you actually seen the car or test drove it yet?

$7k for only 400 miles seems really good, show up and offer a little less and see what happens

I have only seen the car online. I live about 100+ miles away from the nearest dealerships. In all honesty, I haven't even driven an RA ever. If it is an improvement over my Eclipse GSX, I'll be happy. Wish I was in the market for an Evo, but I want to keep my Eclipse and the insurance would just be ridiculous.

Since you're far away, have the salesman take a video walk through of the car, inside and out. It is not uncommon for a demo car, especially one that is almost 2 yrs old, to have light damage such as small dings and such. I also would highly recommend test driving the car first.

+1 for test driving the car and seeing it in person.
400 miles is a lot, even for a demo car.
If it were me, I would treat it more as a used car than a new one, to be honest.
I'm saying that because when people drive demo cars, they don't baby the car like an owner would.

To me the listed price 27,800 was high to start with! I got (in march) a new 09 with recaro package for 26,000. The price they offered you sounds reasonable but I would go check it out in person.
Good luck!

They called me today. It has the intelligent or smart key deal, not remote start. Been on their lot 478 days as of today. No damage that they can think of. I will make the 1.75 hour drive to check it out in a week. Offered to throw leather in for $1200 and I think that is a bit high. Crossing my fingers that I will love the car and it looks brand new and that I can walk out with a close to $21k deal. With how long it has been on their lot, I hope they are desperate for a buyer.

oh crap 478 days, dude offer them less, way less, they have to sell that car. I am surprised they havent sold it to an auction by now. I bought my RA for 21k, fast key, etc. Love it. You need to capitalize on the fact that the car has been there for over a year. That is almost unheard of when it comes to dealers, like I said, they usually sell it to an auction or put it at another location if its a chain. I would offer them 20500 out the door, they would be stupid not to let it go for that price after no sale for over a year. Play hardball with them. Good luck

I just paid 24k OTD for a brand new 2009 ralliart with 140 miles on it. Was in perfect condition inside and out. I don't know how long they have had it there, but I think I paid too much. It was my first car-buying experience so I had that going against me. Wish I had found this forum before dealing with the dealers.

I agree with the other 5 people who posted the exact same advice.

I hate to say this, but you couldn't have figured this one out on your own? At least take a look at some of the other threads in this forum. This topic is not even a dead horse anymore. It is rotting out.

400 Miles is a bit far from new, test drive it first! Push the price even farther down.

Why? So that you could go into the dealer and blindside him with everyone elses' numbers? That rarely works.

It is all about shopping around. I am dead serious.
