Buying a *New* 2009 Ralliart
Currently they're not budging. It's too bad because my backup plan is a 2010 Impreza 2.5i premium, which they are willing to go down to 20k OTD on. Obviously not as fun to drive or as fast, but it's still a very nice car. The extra 3 grand is too rich for my dad's blood, so in his eyes the Impreza is the way to go. You'd think these schmoes would realize that its better to get a 2009 off the lot for any reasonable offer rather than have it continue to sit there...oh well.
On a brand new Impreza? Invoice is 19.1k I believe, so they're going 500 below invoice. It's fully loaded, moonroof, heated everything, premium, automatic. Not bad.
Would I rather have the Ralliart? Sure. Not my call when the price difference is 3k+

i find it sad that your father is playing keeper over 3k.

I would pay $3k for the AWD alone - AFAIK...The AWD in automatics Subarus is just FWD (95:5 torque split). The AWD on the manual Subarus (non-STI) is better - a full-time 50:50 with viscous LSD center differential.
BUT no front or rear limited slip differentials. To limit slip it applies the brakes to slipping wheels - 'Electronic LSD', which is a much cheaper way of doing it - but its not good. The AWD on the STI is top notch. It has an active center differential (DCCD) like on the Ralliart & Evo and mechanical differentials (torsen rear and helical front).
Good news! Subie salesman was trying to bait and switch, and tried a BS move to give us a bare bones stock after saying it would be fully loaded, for the 20k price. Now all I need to do is get the Mitsu dealership to come down to like ~22k OTD and we'll be in business. We'll see.
Who is doing the negotiation? You mention that your dad is in on the deal. The dealer is more willing to talk numbers to the one actually paying. Don't give up yet. They want to sell you that car more than you actually want it if you're willing to just walk and get another car. Have you test driven the car yet? Are you financing? Are you trading in that Maxima?

dude honestly if you dont get the ralliart, dont BS around with the imprezza, Go RWD and turbo and get the genesis coupe like i am. i was going to get a RA but looked more into the GC. you can get a base 2.0t for around 19 otd and trust me its a LOT more fun than you would have in the imprezza and the insurance is less than what you would pay on a ralliart. look into it
You need to test drive that car. It will let you feel for the car, see any damage if there is any, and more than likely get the dealer to acknowledge you as a serious buyer. You will have more room for negotiation.
Travel 300 miles to test drive it? I may have my sister go check it out for me, she lives nearby at least.
Put some on my Ralliart this last winter and with the few bad storms we did have I was passing everyone up in their huge 4x4 trucks and SUV's
