About to buy a 2010 Ralliart.....

Hello all,

So I am about to buy a 2010 Ralliart. Tomorrow the financing should go through. Its a brand new car (white) with recaro seats. Pretty decent setup. I'm wondering is there anything I should really know about the ralliart's? I've read a lot in the forums of the tranny's going LONG before warranty is up. I bought an extended 5 year 160,000km warranty just to be save. I realize with it being such a performance car that the maintance must be some what expensive?

I also got the undercoat option, the rust protection option and paint protection option with my package. (I'm really hoping the financing works out)

My car payments are going to be pretty high, they'll be somewhere around 700/month.

But yeah just wanted to know if it was a good idea for me. The ralliart's seem like awsome cars just somewhat expensive. During my test drive is was amazing.

Thanks

The RA is a great car and all....but that's a pretty large payment to have over your head for years to come. Plus insurance and maintenance. Just think hard about that before you jump in.

Yeah luckly for me insurance is only 200/month for good insurance. As for maintenance what is average spending on it? I assume all the oil changes and stuff and tires etc add up. I do have a good warranty but if it's normal maitenance its not covered...

You're right about the tranny. Almost all of us worry about that going one day, especially prematurely. Right now with labor, it's about $9000 american to replace the thing.

Maintainence is obviously more than a fwd, rwd, or normal awd/4wd car with a stick or standard automatic.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm changing my oil every 3000 miles (the turbo can be especially hard on the oil). It's not that bad if you do it yourself, I always use full synthetic. You could go 5000 mi between oil changes but only if you literally did all highway driving. I'd wager most good synthetics are good for about 4000 miles being beaten up in a turbo and at that point there's little difference between changing it at 3k vs 4k.

At 30k, I'm changing the air filter, tc-sst oil, transfer case oil, coolant, differential fluid. All that comes out to be about $7-800 at the dealer.

So yes, it's more maintainence but you're talking a difference of like $1000-1500 over 6-8 years of ownership, so it's not that bad.

$700/mo is irrevelant unless we know how long the term is for because we don't know how much money is left over at the end of the month. I'm assuming you're going for a 36-48 month loan? Whether you can afford it depends on what % it is of your income. If you're stretching it tight, then I wouldn't. I would get something more dependable with less maintainence.

You can always do what I did. I went for the longest loan term I could to minimize monthly payments in case I needed money for something else. In the mean while I've been making double, triple, and sometimes quadruple payments if I didn't spend that much money that month.

Even with your insurance being $200/month, which is alot, that's $900/month just to HAVE a car. That's not even considering gas. Add in new winter tires since you're in B.C. and the winters can be brutal.. The stock tires suck (total understatement...). I'd think about the decision you're going to be making.

I carried over 7k negative equity from my 04 civic si. I initally had gotten the extended warranty and premium care package. BUT inorder to get the bank to finance me at 0 percent I went with 580/month for 72 months at 0 percent and got approved with 4,000 down. So it should work out alright. They're giving me like 7k for my 04 civic si when initally they would only give me 5k, just to make the payments work out at 580/month... So pretty decent. I feel 580/month is manageable. I'm going from a 420/month car payment to a 580 car payment... Not a big jump really... about the cost of my insurance.. Thankfully its 170/month.. I was paying about 600/month for my civic with insurance and this is going to me like 750/month with insurance plus is a sweet ride... The stock all seasons, will they get me through 1 month atleast? I need some time to saveup some extra cash for winter tires.....

He's from Canada. So I'm going to assume all you Americans telling him $700 should get him into a more expensive car are wrong.

Even still, carrying over that kind of negative equity is silly IMO. I just wouldn't do it. But if they are willing to refi that into 0% you just came out ahead. Do they have GAP insurance in Canada?

The stock tires are NOT All-Season, but rather Summer-Only tires that come standard on the Ralliarts sold here in the U.S.A. However, maybe in Canada the factory tires are All-Season, I have no idea....

Why do you regret buying a Ralliart?

When I got my Ralliart I wanted to get it barebone as possible. The only extra I got was the Rotor Glow metallic. If I had more money I would have put it towards a second car or a faster car before buying the dealership extras.
