Most likely not. I worked for CAA and installed 500+ batteries. The neg and postitive would always touch stuff. While installing the new batt he could had something touch the positive terminal while it was hooked up....
I cannot think of any reason why switching the batts would do this other than the size or Cold Cranking Amps the new batt has.
Check the specs for your car. Every car requires a different amounf of cold Cranking Amps.
Try what Cataclysm said. Reinstall the old battery and reflash the ECU.

in that case, you likely blew a fuse, or something along those lines, which is causing your issue. don't feel bad, i've seen cars come in where the customer was replacing a battery and managed to arc the terminals while hooked up, or hooked up backwards, and in both cases completely fried the pcm and had to replace. big bucks man. if you're still up and running, its likely just a fuse or something simple
