Starting the car in cold weather with GST V2 91 oct map.

Well guys for the past week it's been getting colder here in Ottawa/Gatineau, Canada. It droped down to -10C (14F) where I work ( this sucks ) , what's cool tho is the car starts flawlessly, actually it starts better with this tune then stock tune.

I know it's still not that cold but it's nice to know the car is up to par with the weather. When it's all warmed up the idle will 99.9% of the time stay at 900 rpm and on rare occasions going up to 950 rpm

The only problem I have is that, with a tune like this, it wakes up the car hence I want to throw more money in it to have even MORE POWER!!

I want to thank Bryan@GST for making this superb map for our cars.\

Thanks B-ry.

Did you get to check out the code?

I think I know why it's doing this. If you can confirm the code with me I can most likely fix the issue.

No Bryan it turned off, I did not have time to get the CEL checked. I had an appointment with the dealership the day after it turned off.

The last thing I did was put 91 octane in the car and she was parked for 2-3 days. I was running 94 octane since I got flashed. Then all of a sudden it turned off.

I don't know why it did that, but it seems ok now. If it ever comes back I will give you the code.

Sorry Brother...

I've had a few cold no -starts since the temp dropped below 10c at night. I always turn it to off, turn too acc and wait for fuel pump to prime and start again. My old car did it too. I dont know exactly what it is, whether its the relay or slow pump (had a walbro 255), but waiting a few seconds to start solved it.

I've also had a few times cold idle was at 1200-1500 rpm.

Stock air filter, tbe and gst v2 91 tune. Friend of mine said his tune with tbe was fine in cold weather so i havent really worried about it.

My car starts great! CEL turned on and stayed on for 2-3 days, then turned off, out of the blue...

I think I'll flash back to stock just to be on the safe side. When the car is payed off, I'll trade it in for an evo x. That's in 6 years tho :P I think I'll put in extra $$ every month so it gets payed off quicker. 3 years to go, if I double my payments.

They're probably going to have the evo XI by then :P.

The code most people are getting is P050B - "Cold start ignition timing performance".

I got this code yesterday morning @ +5.

I asked a buddy and mentioned that it had to do with the timing retard valve and could be a number of issues. The ECU has to retard the ignition timing to heat up the cat faster.

But not to concern, for its not a big deal.

I've noticed that on the coldish (relatively, 50 F is cold for so-cal) morning starts, I can hear what sounds like mis-fires (quiet but deep thump/pop sound from the exhaust). But as it warms up they diminish to the point of being gone by the time I have the second bar on the oil temp gauge.

It does that on mine too. Since the CEL is not a big problem I will keep this map because it is just that good

Mine does that too... 100% stock (except K&N drop-in) atm... and I'm also in SoCal (La Crescenta). I've been debating on whether or not to take it in to the Glendale Mitsu dealership. Suck part is it'll have to be left there for a while to reproduce the issue, because the car doesn't do it after it's warm, and it'll be full operational temp by the time I get there.

Actually, it doesn't even have to be in the 50's for my RA to do it. I get it when it's in the mid-60's.

So you get a CEL on cold start as well with the GST Basemap?

mine does it on the first start of the day. doesn't really matter much what the temp is.
