Did it always do it or did it start one day? Does it only do it when stopped or all of the time?

Sounds like our infamous clutch chatter.

If this is what I'm thinking about...see my sig.

My even gears (2 and 4 mainly) chatter like crazy during engine braking/decel. I don't even notice it anymore.

I don't get the chatter when decelerating in even gears at normal speeds, but I get chatter and clunking at low speeds when both accelerating and decelerating, especially if im crawing in traffic. I work at a dealership, and it's the same on every RA I've driven. A momentary loss of the reverse gear with a blinking R on the info panel is also common (happened to me twice, heard from other customers and also on these forums of it happening). I tell people who buy these cars to expect it. I have seen some weird things happen, like a complete loss of even gears on one customer's car, which resolved itself before he could get it here so we could have a look at it. I've yet to see one come back with an actual problem that we can actually diagnose.

Edit: As far as the clicking/clunking noise when the car idles, my RA and the three that we have on the lot make that sort of sound. I haven't heard yours, but mine definately makes some sounds. You can hear the random clicking and clunking of the sst in idle mode, and you can hear the valvetrain ticking too (not a loud tick but noticeable if you know what to listen for). I don't know exactly why I can hear the valvetrain in all the RAs but not in the normal lancers, but I'm guessing its the more aggressive cam. I had a Honda with a stage 3 cam and it made the same sound, even with a brand new valvetrain (all clearances were checked and everything was torqued to spec, it just made that sound).

It's not that noticeable at higher speeds, but at lower speeds (ballpark around 30~35 and under) you can really notice the chatter and clunking coming from the trans on my RA.

Y ou could hear it mostly when it was just running. I heard the noise but it just got louder and louder. I think they said the bearing went out in the engine

They said a bearing went? I've heard that sound (although not in a Mitsu). It sounds like you have a very small person in your engine bay who has a machine gun and likes to use it. How long did you drive it like that? I've never heard of anyone making it thru more than a couple days with a wiped bearing.

When it started to sound really bad I didn't drive it. Only drove it when I went to the dealer, but I find that kinda hard to believe that it was the bearing

It's not impossible that a wiped bearing was your issue, especially since I didn't hear it and so I'm just going by what you've posted here. I'm just saying that a wiped bearing wouldn't be the first thing that I'd think of based on what you've told us here. I also don't have any experience with what happens to our motors when a bearing fails, and it's very possible that it progresses differently than it did on the motor that I have experience with.

Hey SUdzRA Ive just recently noticed a problem. Maybe youvce seen this before or have an idea. Under very light acceleration ( possible in closed loop ) my rpms will vary up and down constanlty by 200-300, and at times, again under light / medium light acceleration will jump in 200 rpm increments instead of a nice smooth climb. I experience no hesitaion under WOT or medium to heavy accel. Last week I had to bring the car in to the dealer cause it was running horrible. Threw the lean code, sputered horrible under medium to WOT acceleration, definitely having early detonation, idle would fluctuate heavy and barely stay running. It turned out that the fuel vacuum line had come loose. They popped it back on and everything seemed to go back to normal accept for this very slight coasting / ligh accel ocillation Im experiencing now.

Any thoughts?

That's a very common problem experienced not only by Ralliart guys, but more-so with the Evo X guys. Just zip-tie that vacuum line, and it'll cure this problem. There are several threads in this forum about it. I didn't even have to read your entire post to know what your problem was.
