I've never really paid much attention to the fluctuation in RPMs on a cold start-up, but it seems pretty normal to me. If the fluctuation was larger, it would be a cause for concern, but your variation is fairly minimal.

It is supposed to go down to 7*F tonight, so in the morning, I will see what mine does.

i actually remembered to record mine last night after work, now to figure out youtube upload... anyway, it was around 14* f and i would say there was a maximum range of about 300rpm fluctuation, but it was definitely there. i think its the car trying to settle the rpms down, since theyre so high at startup and perhaps the car is not lowering them gradually enough so once the motor starts to stutter or run inefficiently per the computers parameters it picks the rpm back up for a bit more warm-up time before trying to settle back down to engine idle speed.

Checked today during the class-2 warning snowstorm lol. Everything was attached correctly. Also helped three cars that were stuck
I think I need to lean the AFR out a bit but not experienced enough yet.
Oh well.

Could be, but being that more people are noticing it and saying theirs does it too, I'm just going to leave it be and if it causes problems then I'll get it checked out. Otherwise it doesn't affect the performance of the car. Like others have said, they were worried at first then they got used to it. I was concerned because I've never seen a car do that before, nonetheless a new car for that matter. Since the DE and ES have the same engine just without the turbo, I wonder if theirs does it too. If not, then it has to be something to do with the turbocharged system on the RA.

I seem to remember that as well when I first got my 09 RA. I even had a few times it wouldn't start on the first try. Sometimes it would be a rough idle like you were saying and it would get extremely rough if I put a load on it at idle like turning the A/C on full blast. I had a few times I had to cut the A/C off because it was fixing to cut off. It got better though after a while but it still has its moments.

Mine's always done that, and as far as I remember, my old cars did that too. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

When I left work this evening, I remember to record some a video on my phone. The quality is pretty poor and I only have about 30 seconds. Sure enough, mine was fluctuating, although it was minor like 03chi-townOZ's. I also noticed the exhaust "popping" a bit during this time. If you would like, I can post the video, but you can't hear anything.

Nah, no worries Chris. It's apparently normal then if everyone's car does that to some extent. I think the only time that one should truly worry about it is if it surges drastically or throws a code for whatever reason.

Just a little update... I'm almost at 1,000 miles already (damn the distance I drive to work...) and the cold startup idle isn't as bad. Maybe it had to do with the ECU still learning. All seems better now.

Mine does this too. I found this video online. Let me know if this is what your car does.

Holy almost one month thread bump... forgot this thread was out there.

Yea that's my video, I was concerned at first but realize that it's normal. Dunno why it is, but it is. Doesn't bother me anymore, as a matter of fact I have about 2K miles and it's not as bad anymore.

I just got my new RA last weekend. Prior to that I tested 3 others RA in three different states (MD, VA, PA) and all (including mine) did the same thing. I wonder at first but seems that all and yours have the same concern.

Nope, not mine, as I previously stated in this thread...
