UR high flow cat/downpipe install

Hey everyone. I'm going to be ordering the high flow cat and downpipe from UR soon and I just wanted to get a feel for what to expect during installation. I know there is an o2 sensor in the stock cat and that it has to be moved to the high flow. Is that hard to do? Are there any other sensors or anything I should know about? Also, there is an option for the wideband bung in both the downpipe and the high flow cat. Which piece should i get that bung for? Thanks for all the help.

Rent one of those O2 sensor wrenches. Make sure to plug the bungs if you're not going to use them or it will be obnoxiously loud.

There is an option for a bung on either the UR DP or HF Cat, check out the UR website, both are listed. You need to get the gaskets for the connections, and they are both available from UR, but other than that, there are not many surprises. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. I see that there are the bung options for both pieces. Do I need it on both piece or just one? And if just one, which one?

Is there just one O2 sensor in the cat? No others?

Thanks for the help

There is only one o2 sensor on the cat. Yes there are options for bungs on both, but getting it on the dp is better because it gets a better reading being closer to the engine. There really arent any surprises here though. The exhaust sounds awesome to me and yes it is loud but I don't think it's too much. Just my opinion though. Getting the dp off and on is a pain though. You will need several extensions in order to get that sucker loose. good luck and enjoy

I thought I noticed some very slight smells the first few days after the UR (ceramic) HF Cat was installed on my car, but that was totally gone in just a day or so.

In my case both the UR DP and HF Cat were installed the same day, and the smell was so slight that it could have just been something like fresh handprints on the exhaust burning off. I'm not really sure, but like I said it was very slight and gone almost immediately.

There are two o2 sensors that need to be removed and transferred to your new parts. crrowley is correct that there is only one on the cat, but there is also one on the dp that you will have to deal with that he did not mention. Just a heads-up, but shouldn't make it that much more difficult.

Also, word of advice, make sure you undo the o2 sensors before removing the bolts for the piping. Much harder to get good leverage on the sensor if everything is loose and swinging around under there.... (insert "underwear" joke here)

I forgot about that one. Thanks for updating him on that. And yes removing them first is good but be careful with where you place them because if you damage one I believe they are pretty expensive to replace.

As far as any smell I never noticed a smell after I did my install. I believe if you get the metal one then you might get some smell, but hopefully someone else can confirm or deny that for you.

RideSober did or have you ever got a CEL? Or anyone for a matter of fact with the UR HFC Ceramic.

I threw a CEL with mine until I got it tuned. Even Cobb Stage 2 cleans it up enough to remove it

Yeah I plan on getting a tune right after I get my HFC installed. Do they actually have a manual disable or is it because they tune the car and fix the fuel trims?

Yes as a matter of fact I did get a CEL a few days after the install, and it was only because the 02 sensor had come loose on the HF cat pipe.

In my case my initial suspision was that maybe one of the 02 sensors had come loose, and it was easy to diagnose and repair. I just put a dab of high temp thread sealer on the threads, tightened it up, reset the code, and have never had another CEL.

If you are getting the ceramic HF cat from UR I would suggest you consider having the protector/shield that comes on it securely welded in place before you install it. The shield on my cat rattled a bit after install and was annoying, so I had to repair that and it would have been easier to just do it before the install.

So reading this, I'm still not clear, when ordering this combo of both the DP and HFC, should both come with bungs for the 02 sensors or not? I havent been under the car to see if there is a sensor on the stock dp and another sensor on the stock cat. just wanna clear this up, also with the metal ur hfc, is there solid proof that it shows good gains over the stock cat or would it be better to get a milspec welded on for the extra cost?
