Whats the stock RA turbo capable of?

was just wondering a while ago what kinda of hp and torque the RA's stock turbo is capable of. if you get all the bolt ons and mods that run with a stock turbo, whats the highest numbers it would be capable of reaching? any helpful info appreciated

talk to chi-town, hes a moderator on this forum. He has done a lot of impressive things with the stock turbo so he would be a valuable resource depending on what your looking to do

I know a couple people here in the Montreal region with the same mods I have and dyno'd pretty high with bolt ons. A little more than 250-260...

We're talking:

Long Downpipe
High flow Cat
Cat-Back
EvoX FMIC (anything bigger will bog the little turbo down)
UICP/LICP 2-pipe hard pipes
Upgraded BPV (at least EvoX)
Intake (at least a high flow panel filter)
Boost pill
Tune

Usually gets about 280whp/310wtq on a stock turbo with 93 octane. I know someone who actually had all this and pulled 291whp/314wtq on the dyno. I have the dyno sheet somewhere.....I'll try to find it.

Put it this way, about 35-37% more hp and 40% more tq with full bolt ons and a solid tune.

There's a build thread somewhere on here (it was also on ralliartforums, forgot the guys name) but he maxed out the stock turbo somewhere around 270-280whp I believe. To get up and over 300 you need the Evo X turbo or better. 300whp is probably possible with a w/m kit or 100 octane if you are going to the track.

280-285whp is max for a stock turbo.

If you swap to an EvoX turbo (plus all other necessary items), you can easily do 300+whp.

Depends on the dyno.

Dynojet: yes, 300 whp is possible
Mustang: no, 300 whp is not possible

I also realized I'm incorrect on the torque figures. With the above set up that I have, you can get about 280whp-285whp/320-330wtq.

it's not all about the numbers, but the power curves the turbo produces. the stock RA turbo, with it's small size, can hit 350ish wtq, but it won't be able to hold it as rpm's rise

you have to remember on a turbocharged, small displacement engine, that the turbo drives everything. You upgrade exhaust to make the turbo breathe better, you upgrade intake to make the turbo inhale better, etc etc.

In the end, a small turbo is a small turbo, and a big turbo is a big turbo - one will spool quick and have no top-end, the big vice-versa. Bolt-on parts will help, but they will not change characteristics of a turbo. The turbo is still where all your power comes from

That being said, that's why more and more people on the RA are doing an Evo X swap. You could throw on every single bolt-on available, but they will always feel different and have different power curves. What people should be doing is looking at dyno charts and looking for the power curve you want, NOT the numbers

shameless plug: selling a full evo x turbo swap for anyone interested
