A Slightly Different Build Thread
lol.. everyone is so funny.
sstevojr I like the idea of your thread as we both have build threads! I think what your doing is great no matter what everyone thinks. Everyone does what they feel is necessary for their car.
I agree with NSF that our car does need bigger brakes. The more power you add the better stopping abilities you want! I know if it was available I would add it to my buld thread and I also plan do some auto X and I drive hard. I think pads can only go so far. I already smoked my brakes
and my car is also a DD for a pad that can work for track and DD is the way I would go. I just don't feel liking doing all the extra work to keep changing it out to a track only pad.
I also noticed that you are doing your own tuning or did I get that wrong? I was wondering what is your plan on this.

Yes, I took over tuning my car about 6 months ago. I was kinda half way doing it for 6 months, but then decided to really jump in with both feet. There was/is/will be a lot to learn, but the beauty of this place is most everything can be found.
Sweet bro! Any recommendation for someone like me who has never tuned before? As you know, I live so far from any tuner! I would like to learn as much as I can
Just need to be pointed in the right direction. I am using one of the GST Base Map and love it!
If I can spray some more interwebz flame fuel around for a moment...
I've competed in skidpan auto-x and long-track "sprint" series since probably '04, in several cars. For a few years, I was competing every other weekend, with training days thrown in too, between them.
I've got Pagid Blue pads on my RA. RS-4-2 compound, if I remember correctly. That's a competition compound, albeit one of the less aggressive pads from Pagid. It gets really bitey around the 500C mark.
After a year of RA ownership, I can safely say that the brakes are way too small for sensible track use.
The brakes get really hot, really fast. Ridiculously fast really. If I can get to the 2-minute mark doing laps in the RA without getting the Hard Pedal of Death, I count myself lucky.
After 2 laps, I need to spend, ooh, about a week, driving slowly around the carpark trying to get them cool enough to park up.
With these Pagids, I can handle quick 60-second auto-x courses. All good. But hauling her up once or twice after a long straight means insane amounts of heat getting dumped into the front rotors.
My last tracked DD could lap all day and not fade. Brakes would cool down while I was on throttle. The RA, in contrast, builds up "net" brake heat at an alarming rate, lap on lap. For, err, all of two laps. Then it's cooked and ready for lunch.
Cheers,
Rich

UPDATE:
As some of you may have seen, I ended up getting the C6 Z06 6-pot BBK; also added Cobalt XR2 pads and SS lines.
Additionally I set-up the front and rear sway bars to full hard for the best turn in possible (this chassis we have is seriously impressive, it whips around corners like an oversized go-cart).
After 3 rounds my Ralliart Sportback is....in the middle of the pack (7 out of 14 in Street Class)
Despite being 200-500lbs heavier and 40-100whp slower than the rest of the competition, I'm trying to hang in! My goal is to make it through all 8 events w/o getting last place in any event; so far so good

SPECIAL THANKS:
Road Race, these guys are at EVERY EVENT! They provide:
A) Food, Drinks , and Snack
B) Advice and Support
C) Flat bed and Tools in case (flat bed was used on the first event, but thankfully not in the last two)
Thank you Mike and Rossy, you guys rock!!!

Brilliant, well done.
You can hold your own against faster cars in a series by:
(a) Turning up.
(b) Not blowing up.
(b) Not going on a gardening odyssey mid-course.
Keep plugging away, don't go off, and keep the car reliable. A consistent mid-field time beats someone else's "Did Not Start" or "Did Not Finish".

Thanks guys!
I just got a Go Pro, so I should have some vids after the next event (July 7 4pm to midnight, doing a bit of night racing, should be interesting!)
