Almost Accident
Almost Accident
Just had to share because I feel pretty shook up about it...
So, while driving on the way home after picking up my daughter from her day-care, the roads were wet. It was also quitting time for most workers in the area with children walking home from school to make things even more complicated.
We pass by the Veterans Street which leads to the VA hospital (high traffic area for senior citizen drivers) and see a pretty bad accident - a car upside down and a crowd of people.
Well drivers looking at that accident almost caused my own. The minivan behind me got hit by the car behind them... I see the van lurch forward from my rearview to hit me so I gassed while staring at the rear view.
The older lady in front of me smashed on the brakes (with broken tail lights) as I see her hold her camera phone to take a picture of the accident while the two cars immediately to my right lane (nearer to Veterans Street) get in a fender bender.
Instict had me smash my brakes, shifting down twice to engine brake to assist but oh no... here comes the rear end of the older lady's car. So I think me and my daughter are pretty much headed for our first accident and for a split second I see the space on my left clear up because someone had turned left at that intersection...
As my daughter giggled in delight from the damn g-forces my steering produced... we made it out as I hear the minivan behind me smash into that car that was in front of me.
I don't know about you guys but I was a nervous wreck driving home after that. I kept thinking....
Had I had my civic; I would've turned that steering wheel and the response would've been: "You really want to do that? Let me think about it."
Had I had my 350z, the response to the turn would've been, "well you accelerated too quick and the ground is wet... let's just hit that car in front of us."
And the Mazda 5 would've already been hit by the car from behind because of its length and the God awful time I reacted after seeing my rear view's image of impending doom.
For all the complaints I hear about the Lancer Ralliart... it sure danced around pretty well while all the cars surrounding me were hitting each other... I had never tried out the limits of the steering and handling but holy crap did that sudden turn feel like a winner.

And my daughter is still sitting like a boss when I back parked into the garage... and yes, that's a poster of the RA... I need to have it there to remind me not to set the minivan on fire when I have to drive it for long periods of time
"cool story, bro" or whatever... I know my car is getting a washed and detailed tomorrow until my arms fall off.

Glad you made it out okay, especially with the little one in the car. Living in Florida, and dealing with the flash storms we get, I can say that I have been nothing but impressed with the Ralliart and how it handles in inclement weather.
Well done mate on keeping your little one, and yourself, safe. I work as a firefighter here in Australia (Fire Rescue NSW) and the amount of times I've almost been run over by motorists who were looking at an accident I was attending, and not at the road, would amaze you, and that's with me dressed in reflective gear standing next to a big red truck with flashing lights on it. First rule of driving past an accident is to watch the cars around you and not the accident itself, glad to see you followed that rule to a T.
