New Owner (ralliart)
this too... From what i know about the SST tranny and Mitsubishi. You will want every bit of a warranty you can get... but in anycase, you have it now, so
1. get the tranny checked throughly
2. Don't push the tranny
3. Baby the tranny
4. Baby the tranny
5. No racing unless you have too..

There's another member on here with username sstevojr that would beg to differ with you. He devoted a whole thread to proving his hypothesis that babying the tranny will make it go belly-up far more often than a combination of normal driving and running it hard on a regular basis.
Hey buddy I thought I should share my experience, I have a high Km 2nd hand 2009 Ralliart.
First thing is to make sure the SST fluid AND the filter has been changed. Get paperwork. If there isn't any, assume it hasn't been done. Also this stuff isn't cheap. A replacement transmission is very expensive so you really want to be on top of maintenance.
This is where warranty comes into it. The 5 year warranty should carry over to the second owner. Mine did, maybe you should question why you only got 60 days.
Do a test. First go to a hill and drive up it. Stop to a standstill, then accelerate again. If the car shudders or hesitates, then you have a transmission problem. Also try a sharp U turn and see if anything abnormal happens.
Don't always drive in Normal/Auto mode. This is what kills them, too much clutch slip from smooth changes, you might wonder why you don't see TC-SST in any model rather than EVO MR and Ralliart. That's because they are a performance transmission not designed to be "nice" but they are programmed to suit a broad range of drivers which is ultimately what makes them fail.
The RA and EVO transmissions are different only in the firmware and gear ratio of 5th and 6th gear, you don't get Super Sport mode which is standard on EVO. RA is taller in these gears to aid fuel consumption. Problem is the gears are too tall for the programming again and will always go for a gear too high. That's where you want to shift gears yourself.
You can argue this if you like. I'm only going by what my Mitsubishi dealer said when I picked my car up from getting my SST replaced under warranty. It cost them $10K just for the gearbox. These days they are repairing rather than replacing.
You do really want to find out if you have a tune especially with an intake mod.
I suspect you probably do and your car doesn't have any issues by the sound of it.

Hello I am new to the forum here and would really love if someone could provide me with some information about my new car! It would be greatly appreciated. I just bought a used 2009 Lancer Ralliart with 60,000 miles from a Mitsubishi Dealership. The car is really nice and fast which I love however I still currently learning about the ralliarts. The car only came with a 60 day or 3,000 mile warranty so I want to make sure the car is in good running condition.
The car has a Borla exhaust and AEM intake from whoever owned the car before. When I first drove the car I was shocked about the twin clutch sst transmission. It seems to shift very very firm and I want to make sure this is normal? Also when taking off in first gear in drive it goes into gear like a standard and sometimes it jerks into gear which I thought was the AWD but it does it even when you have 100% traction.
One more quick thing and I really appreciate any ones input. We drove the car home about 6 miles tonight after work and babied it home. When we arrived home we smelt what appears to be very sweet like antifreeze. Any ideas on this?
Thanks again so much!
-Mitch

It is well looked after, though. I change fluid+filter every 25,000km - and have fitted a temp-switched fan to the stock cooler. I also have removed the foglamps to get more air through.

Rokpapaziz- Thanks so much for the input you gave me! The car has 60,000 miles on it and when I bought it I wasn't offered any more of a warranty other than the Lemon law which is 60 days or 3,000 miles....Do you think that they should of offered more of a warranty or that Mitsubishi still covers stuff under warranty being at 60,000 miles? Did your car have 60,000 miles?
The transmission fluid and filter was definitely changed 100% no doubt and the dealership just mailed me out a paper showing the services they did, they also changed the timing chain because they said it was stretched.
The car does once in a while when you take off from a stop and go it will i wouldn't say shudder but it jerks once in awhile but I thought this was normal because of the AWD. I will do some more testing today on a hill and see what she does. Thank you very much!

Well I'm in Australia, so there may be a difference, but as I understood it's a global 5 years warranty on everything since the car was purchased or 160,000km (100,000 miles). Carries over to the second owner of the car.
But service records are important too, needs to be documented by mitsubishi what has been done in the past, otherwise they can rightly say no warranty.
I made my claim when my car had done 75,000km. That was about a year ago.
The low speed jerk is basically the way the car's stock SST tune is. Mine did do that, but after reflashing the ECU with the latest GST maps it never happens anymore.
You can also try changing your driving style, at low speed i generally drive like I used to drive my previous manual car that had a "performance" style clutch.
