trying to install strip lights

i want them in the engine bay and i want them to come on when the car comes on but i dont want to have a switch can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to do this?

hook a wire up to a source that's always powered and a source that's powered only at key on hook it to a relay with appropriate fuse then wire your lights to the relay output


Just noticed the two sources are reversed

thanks.....totally just got pulled over because apparently having lights on the exterior of your car is illegal in all 50 states....talked my way out of a ticket....looks like i need a switch

Lol. Yea pretty much any additional light to your vehicle is for "off-road" use only, with the exception of like side amber markers.

True fact: A string of christmas lights used instead of speaker wire will light up in response to the music signal.

Not that you should do this - just that you could.
