I've finally decided to replace my stock Advan A10 tires with another brand. I also would like to increase the tire size from 215/45-18 to 225/45-18 at the same time. They'll be mounted on aftermarket 18x7.5 rims.

Does anybody have experience with this size tire? I'm particularly concerned with possible tire rubbing, as the tire will be about 1/2 inch wider. There would be only a little more than 1% difference in circumference, so the speedometer would only be off slightly.

 

1% on the speedo is nothing to worry about. What offset are your rims? You will only get rubbing issues if you have an aggressive offset and wider tires or if you are lowered and have wider tires/rims you might rub with some offsets. From you worrying about 225's rubbing and almost stock size rims, I assume you have stock like offset +45 to +48. If they are a stock like offset you will be fine.

They will be 1/2" overall wider but only 1/4" towards the fender.

 

I just got my 225/45/18 Hankook Ventus V12 on 18x7.5 wheels put on. I'm lowered on RRM springs and have no rubbing issues. It looks close in the rear but the tire will camber in as the suspension compresses. If I get some time later I will post some pictures up.

 

i have 225/45/18 tires on my stock rims for the winter and there is no issues.

I also have installed the lowering RRM springs and would like to widen the tire width. Are 225s the only size that will fit the stock rims? Or can I go with 235s on stock rims?

 

I have 225-45-18's on the stock rim and they're fine. Conti DWS's. One point of note, going wider means you can't use the spare tire for very long without throwing ACD service required lights...apparently the smaller diameter makes it think it's constantly spinning slightly more and therefore slipping...

 

My tire guy told me 225/40/18 would be the same circumference as the 215/45/18 just track 1" wider total

 

so can u slap 235's on the stock rims?

 

Continential DWS here too, 225/45R18 on stock rims. 0 problems.

Lots of DWS love here. It's the only 168mph rated tire that's also halfway decent in snow.

 

225/40/18 are probably a lot cheaper, and that looks to be the most comparable size to the stock tire on the stock wheel.

No - Stock rims are 7" Wide - 225 is the widest you would want to go. A minimum of 7.5" is recommended for 235 (8"+ would be ideal)

Compared to stock (215/45/18)

225/40/18 results in: Speedometer reading 2.1% to fast. When speedo reads 60, you're actually going 58.8

225/45/18 results in: Speedometer reading 1.4% to slow. When speedo reads 60, you're actually doing 60.8

 

The price is not even close to comparable.
