Tire Weight

Ok, so I will be in the market for a new set of summer tires very soon, and was wondering how should the weight of the tire factor into my decision?

The size I would like to get for my aftermarket wheels is 235/40/18. The two main tires I am trying to decide between are

Continental DW - 21lbs in weight

Bridgestone Potenza RE760 - 27lbs in weight

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

With an astounding 6lb difference in weight for each tire, that is 24lbs off the whole set of wheels, and effectively the equivalent of shaving off about 100lbs of static weight (from my research).

It is clear that in this case the DW would perform better, however what about when you put the DW up against the much more performance oriented Dunlop Direzza Pro Star Spec, which weighs a whopping 26lbs? I would imagine the direzza would perform worse than the DW off the line, while the direzza would perform better in the handling department. Is this a correct interpretation? Have you guys had to face a similar decision and how did you factor in tire weight?

I think sidewall stiffness, compound and construction would have more of an impact than weight.
